  • March of the pedants once more...Mesmirizing => Mesmerising

Please correct, it is annoying me. And none of this US spelling crap either. Thanks

Erm, it's our bleeding language and we were spelling it like that before the US was a twinkle in Great Great Great Great Uncle Sam's eye...so mesmerising it is!

PH, it is (primarily) spelt mesmerize, even in England

            Sorry.

                  mesmerize

that is the correct way to spell it according to the British Oxford Dictionary and the American Wevser's Dictionary.

Well according to my dictionary you can use either actually But we all know that -ize is a crude bastardisation of the English language

Well, OTOH, it does match the way it's pronounced better...

Which is different to the way PH wants it spelt, and the way that the news item spelt it.

This is English, nothing matches the way it is spelt. What do you expect?

Thats about the sise of it. Can I have a prise for two examples that break your above statement?

Actually I have a dictionary from 1950 and it places the -ize use above/before the -ise use in many cases. In others it does place -ise first (eg. Industrialise). So it is not a new "US invasion" of language. It is just your xenophobia.

Finally, I do hope you are not saying that Queen Liz I & II had their names influenced by a bastardization of the language?
