  • Mods: a question

Today on the Civ3 general forum there was an announcement from Firaxis about the content of the upcoming patch.

Almost immediately abusive posts started to appear, at the same time as Soren, Dan and probably Jeff (given that he was posting on CivFanatics) were present, and responding to some of the questions.

I'd like to know what the moderators policy is in this situation: I am very reluctant to suggest heavy-handedness, but perhaps this is an example which merits more intervention on the part of the moderators...

My feeling is we want to obtain as much information from the Firaxis people as possible, and that perhaps today the response by some was so vitriolic it put the Firaxians off from being more open with their views and knowledge. It could be that I'm utterly wrong, and they are impervious to the abuse, but I suspect not.

So, can the mods tell me what their thoughts and policies are on 'screening' posts, not to protect the Firaxis people from criticism, but simply the more 'energetic' voices amongst us, and only on announcement threads such as we saw today.

    Cheers

    V

Here's someone suggesting MORE power for the mods.

Firaxis: If you don't want a riot, don't release a poor patch. End of story.

People are welcome to their opinions... If you review most of the threads, there are people that like the game, and people that hate it... There are people that are polite, and people that aren't. Everybodies opinion is important. When they step over the line and continue to be abusive, action is taken.

The Staff from Firaxis understand that people love the "Civ" Franchise, and that many of us have spent a lot of time and energy playing games in the series. It is no surprise that many people take this really seriously, and are sometimes very emotiional.

Firaxis knows that they CAN NOT create a game that EVERYBODY will love. Everybody seems to have their own opinion of what a "perfect" game should be. I think the staff members from Firaxis have been very patient and continue to post here even though some of the people here have deemed it their sole purpose in life to abuse them because they don't like the game.

Are there some bugs in the game... Yes... Is Firaxis trying to fix them... Yes... Are there some features that some people don't like... Yeah... Will they get "changed"... That depends... many won't. Firaxis knows that they can't please everybody... they are also adults who understand that some people will always be jerks... They have done a great job ignoring people who are only ranting, and they are trying to answer REAL questions.

I've been pleased that they continue to post here.

Again, when somebody goes overboard repeatedly, they will be toast... But it is allowed to NOT like the game... That is just a matter of opinion... and people will continue have their opinions, one way or another.
      Keep on Civin'
