• Has Markos started to trash columns?

One week ago I sent a long ACS column contribution to Dan, because the civilization@gamestats.com didn't work at that time. He accepted it, but asked me to send it to Markos (because he's the one responsible for The Column). So I did that. I also sent him a PM as a notification on the e-mail I had sent.

Few days later he still hadn't answered, but he had read the PM. So I decided to send him a second PM for asking he would also accept the column.

Days passed, but he just ignored the text I had sent to him.

The second submission page states that until this day no column has never been unpublished. So currently it looks like my column is the first one to be trashed. The column followed any ACS guidelines and it didn't contain anything abusive. The subject was related to buying Civ III.

Until this day, Markos has not replied to any e-mails or PMs. Looks like he's currently totally ignoring me. And this is not the first time (reflecting to a humble wish for a name change in the BTC thread name).

Markos, I demand that you would finally take positive action!

Of course he can always cease my membership, delete or close this thread, but that will not change anything. For the moment it looks like I'll have to set up my own website for my columns, if ACS isn't interested to have texts proven earlier to be good by other Apolytoners (check out the Column archive).

gee, maybe he's busy? maybe he has a life beyond this site? maybe a job? maybe a family? maybe he's working on other stuff on this site? maybe there are columns submitted ahead of yours? maybe he'd need 53 hours a day to respond to every worthless *****, whine, moan, and gripe? and maybe 22 hours for the worthwhile ones? (ok maybe half an hour )

Markos, as with myself, are limited in how much time we are able to spend working on the site at any given time. Rest assured that non-responsiveness does not mean a) that we have not read your letter(s) and b) that action will not be taken with them, but rather that we have simply not had the time to respond to it yet.

As per Columns themselves, there is a steady trickle of them that are coming in on an ongoing basis. Scheduling them, getting them "web ready" etc. is apart of a process that takes time. Having spearheaded the administration of the Column section from Apolyton's inception (August 1998) until mid-February of this year, I understand this first-hand.

We thank you for your continued patience.

How about asking people to write to a format to make it easier to publish...

Your input is appreciated, SITS. However, this option has already been explored before on several occasions and has been decided on all these occasions that it is not necessary to change the publication format.

Formatting columns into "web ready" articles (HTML) is the last stage and a routine one at that. We already have an established format that is well balanced, making the process as easy and conveient as possible to execute for both the person submitting the work and those that are receiving it (us). There is no reason to change it.

So do you mean that Markos wouldn't have had time to even send just a short message that he has received the article, even if he has been able to do that in one weeks time? Looks like there wouldn't even be time for you to keep the site running.

I cannnot speak for Markos or anyone else as to how much time they have to read/respond to email and so forth, nor would I want to. All I am saying is not to assume automatically that non-responsiveness to an email, PM etc. means that your correspondence has not yet been received and/or read.

Personally, I can tell you that I receive no less than 30 emails in a day (Apolyton related alone) and this volume coupled with other site matters to attend to, plus "offline" or other online responsibilities, does not always make for as speedy a response to communiques as is desired for either the sender or the recipient.

                Rasbelin:

It wasn't too long ago that Markos let it be known that he was running short — if not outright out of — columns. So, with that in mind (along with what Dan and others have said on this thread), I really don't think your column submission has been trashed.

While you're on, Dan, I have a question.

during the last call for "more columns please", I wrote a column and I think I submitted it. but as time passes and it isn't published, I'm wondering if there's any way to check to see if I really did send it.

I would seem really foolish if I resubmitted it.

I don't mind not getting the confirmation email anymore, since I know you guys are busy, but it would have come in handy this time.

                    Hi FB.

I cannot answer this question as Markos handles all matters related to The Column (scheduling, posting etc.). I will drop him a note to look at this thread so as to address your concern.

Finally Markos seems to have some wits.

                            Anyway, thanks!

I used the name Father Beast, and my email- Fatherbeast@juno.com.

guess I didn't submit it, or maybe my internet connection failed while submitting.

Kind of a shame, it was written before the release of civ3, but I think it's still relevant, as long as you can take that one anachronism.

I'll head over to the submission page and put it in again RIGHT NOW!
