I don't mind the OT temp closing as a stop gap measure, but I really hope that's all it is. Please tell me you're working on the capacity issue. PLEASE

But the server busy messages are REALLLLLY starting to drive me crazy. It's almost time to release the Ferrets. I'd hate to see some of the new people be chased away out of frustration. We always need new blood. And most of them will eventually check out the OT for some well deserved razing.

          Mark,

what about closing the chat? I can see the rationale for closing OT vs Civ3. But that chat is allegedly a resource hog. Does chat have priotity over OT?

Also y'all could see this coming for months. I'm dissapointed that there was no contingency plan...and that DanQ's response was basically along the lines of "let's wait a few months and see if things go back to normal"

Well, the chat is still closed after the party, so he might have decided that.

It most absolutely was not, GP. It is being re-evaluated on a daily basis. We are not talking about months here... I would anticipate we're only looking at about a week give or take a few days.

We thank you all for your continued patience and understanding.

                1. "constant evaluation" now, is inferior to anticipation of events and contingency planning.

                2. If traffic stays heavy for the forseeable future, what is your plan, Dan? Will you start figuring it out after a week has gone by?

Dan...don't get all flusterred by my sarcasm...that is meant to give the subject some spice...to inject a little humor into what is a sad situation...and to make you think.

Seriously, though. Your response is along the lines of "We'll wait to see if demand goes down."

It could be longer than you think before traffic goes down. Civ3 is releasing on NOv16th in Europe. We could be heavy traffic for the next 6 weeks. And anyway...don't you want to accomodate new users? Just mend the fences with Gamestats and have them give us some surge volume.

                      Mark.

                      1. What planning was done for the increased traffic. What were the estimates? What were the options considered? What are you currently looking at?

There are no fences to be mended.

I'd suggest commandeering the "Dinosaurs!" forum, but I suspect I'd get banned for it. So instead I'll just suggest renaming OT as "The Expendable Forum" or "The Vaguely Embarrassing Thing".
Why the AC forums. There is a thriving community with actual on going fiction in them..
