I would like to take this opportunity to address the comments made by GP.

Rest assured that we are keeping a close eye on the traffic levels and the time in which the recent high traffic spikes are maintained. It may be the case that the present server Apolyton is on can indeed handle the traffic -- it has performed admirably for the past couple of months in this respect -- but with the recent and at times prolonged slowdowns, coupled with past history, we do not want to take any chances of having the server go down altogether. Again, through ongoing monitoring we may be able to increase the maximum number of simultaneous connections to meet present and increasing demand.

In closing, I would like to thank everyone for their support and understanding thus far on this matter.

There's an excellent article in the August 2001 issue of Linux Magazine, titled appropriatedly, "Coping with Traffic: Building Clusters with Linux Virtual Server."

Get a couple more el cheapo PC boxes and you can set up a cluster in no time at all.

Well... the OT came out of the Civ2/General... perhaps now it should return to it's roots?
