  • please read: OT TEMPORARILY CLOSED DUE TO INCREASED SERVER LOAD

Please accept our apologies, but we have to close the OT for the next couple of hours due to the server load created by the increased traffic.

It goes without saying that we would not like to see unpleasant incidents in the other forums due to this.

    Thank you for your understanding

Ha ha, but Spinky needs to talk about his (lack of) love life!!!

No problem Mark, who expected 500+ people?

      Congrats on the success, BTW.

Is that why the new Civ3 Forums are closed as well?

I have an idea. Close the new chatroom as well, and direct people to the old chatroom. (Yes, I'm pissed off by the message The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later. that sometimes replaces the main window of the chat.)

Are you making changes to handle the increased load? Or will this become a common occurance. The last week I've gotten many server too busy messages.

With CivIII being released this week, I would expect traffic to increase further.

            Just wondering.

I taught that i asked you before

But what do you plann after the release of Civ III. And this is just the beginning. I guess this site is probably the most comprehensice site on the web, and you had less than 200 people on server normally (until a month ago) today it is 581 at the moment an it is most likely to increase in the next few days. Since most of the people who buy civ III and there will be many more will come here (you are on Civ III webpage after all ) and I was jut wandering what are your plans to keep up with the traffic?

my prediction: you will break a thousand people on this site at the same time within a week.

              Good luck.

However if the servers won't be able to sustain the traffic it will stop around the max level since new people will be unable to join.

Does this mean OT is likely to be biting the bullet frequently now?

...and that it's the first-choice forum to get locked?

Just because the civ 3 part is misbehaving the OT get's shut down. They should get their priorities right and close all those ressourse-using forums except OT (and freeciv of course)

I've seen another board remove its "Off-Topic" equivalent permanently before, but I can't see it happening here: where would MarkG get his trolling jollies from?

                          Markos/Dan,

Please explore operations to continue service. This is a great community and could be maintained with subscription or donations or might be of interest to another hosting site. Please at least LOOK at the options. Perhaps a talk with Heaven's Games would be useful. They have high traffic as well and might be able to suggest appropriate hosting.

                            Congrats on the traffic

I don't mind that the OT is closed now that there are alternatives around.

You can see that Apolyton is getting swamped with newbies. Most of the people posting right now are all settlers.
