  • Petition to have chat anywere BUT dalnet

PLEASE! For the love of God, PLEASE do NOT hold the chat on DALnet! ANYWHERE but DALnet. They have sooo many ISPs banned from joining their servers it's not even funny.

No DALnet, I would like the chats to be held anywhere else, but not on DALnet.

Yes DALnet, I would rather use DALnet than any other server.

You forgot the "I dont care" option. I really dont care where they have it (my ISP is my university and doesn't ban anything...).
I put my vote with Dalnet, because changing at this late date would cause too much confusion (But prehaps for future chats..., it would be good for a maximum number of Apolyton'ers to participate).

Btw, can you use the {shudder} java client?

I doubt it will be changed.

      Too little, too late.

But I see nothing wrong with DALnet.

Being a former operator on DALnet, I can assure you they ban very few ISPs, and even when they do it's temporary until the ISP agrees to deal with their troublemaking users... if you have any questions about why your address is banned try kline@dal.net

yeah, i tried that crap and they never responded for 4 weeks, and the chat was over by then. I have been with 4 different ISPs (2 in NJ and 2 in Ok) in the past 4 years and 3 of them have been banned from DALnet.

and if 3 months is what you consider temporary...what is long term?

well, its not only the university that can ban it, dalnet can ban your university if another student screws around on dalnet too. its a 2 way street for that. but on other IRC servers you usually only have to worry about your school from banning it, not the IRC servers.

*shrug* If the ISP refuses to cooperate there isn't much they can really do, abusive users can be a big pain in the neck at times. It does surprise me however that 3 out of 4 ISPs you have used were banned, things may have changed over there in the last year. I still have some friends over there howover, so if you could tell me your domain (mine is accex.net for example) I can see what I can dig up on it.

Might I suggest, if it is really a big deal, that we hold it on Undernet? I once got my ISP banned from there but a week later, it was back. They're pretty liberal with that kind of stuff.

In my experience their servers are always full, but there are worse places for sure. I wouldn't have a problem with this, less newbies over there too.

I usually don't have this problem now that I found a little-known Undernet server in rural Virginia

If you want to get on it, you need this information:

                    McLean.VA.US.Undernet.Org
                    Port 6667

Just use the java chat window. That's not klined.

Dalnet can be a bit laggy at times, but over all, it's the best network, IMO.

Jelly, that's an undernet server ?! how is that going to help?

actually they can ban the java chat window.
as a matter of fact, they DID ban my java chat windows last time apolyton had a chat session! (hence the reason for this thread/poll)
