A question about 'go to first new post'

It's a nice function but it doesn't seem to work that well. Several times it doesn't work as it should and it stays at the first post or at a older post that I've already read about a million times.

My question is really how the last new post is decided by the program so that I know how to get the first new post next time. Should I stay at the last post for some time or what? It would be nice to know...

AFAIK the first new post is posts made after you were logged out last time, but some are cleared with cookies to be later. If you ask this on the vBulletin Forum (use the copyright notice) I believe that you will be able to get a more precise answer.
