  • Help Sneak with Animated Gifs?

I would like to be able to put an animated gif as my avatar.
I've found some online that I like and save them to my pc...but when I go to look at them or use them as an avatar, they aren't animated anymore...just a static version of the gif at the moment I saved it...
What am I doing wrong here?
How do I preserve the animation?

    Thanks in advance!

I'm just right clicking on the image and saving as a gif to a folder.

I am using MS Internet Explorer on a MS Windows '98 OS.

url? I don't want to be invasive but seeing the .gif file might help out, and some of the other people around here could make it work for you. I've got IE as well and it works just fine for this sort of thing, although something similar has happened in the past. Have you run it through a program (paint, etc)?

This is an Animated gif I downloaded from www.firaxis.com/civ3 a while ago.
              Do you see it animate?

(I’m also using IE (5.0) and Windows 98 (SE))

Hmm....I would think that all I had to do was save the gif to a folder and then link to it when I change my avatar?
You keep saying "download"...? Maybe "save as" (by right clicking) is not the way to go?

Worked for me to save the file and stay animated.

I think vBB has something against animated avitars. Like you can't use them. I may be wrong but I don't remember ever seeing one.

Save option saves the image, download saves the file use download.

                        Sneak,

You don't just link to an image on your computer when you change your avatar, you need to upload it to the server.

Ok...how do I make it the right size? I can't open it as a bitmap...and when I click on the saved gif in my desktop folder, it links to an MSE window and works fine...but what if it is too big?

Okay, the best way to do it is to upload your file here and ask some kind-hearted soul to fix it for you, if the file's too big, that is

OK...this is getting very frustrating...I think I'm missing something simple.
I find a gif, right click and save as a gif.
If I want to see it animated, I have to open it in a browser.
If I want to re-size it, I open it in a graphics program...but if I link that saved gif, I get a static picture.
How do I save and link an animated gif?!?
Here is the url to a page of US flags...can someone walk me through how you would attach one of this images as an avatar?

I'll try to link one here....
