I admit, I hope it will be posted, for I just don't want the effort Bugs put into it turn out to be nothing.

      Markos,

On a purely qualitative basis, what would be the effect on the community if you eliminated the OT?

The 1970ers stat was interesting. Sure looks like there is much more vet action in the OT than the rest of the forums...

i dont think we can make safe guesses. just recently there were a lot of people that were afraid that we would have a flood of spam on the on-topic forum due to post counts not increasing in the OT, but that didnt happen in the end.

        but look at the numbers
        A) 9.5% post only in the OT
        B) 23% post in the OT and in the on-topic forums
        C) 67% never posts in the OT

well, the "C" people will not even notice that OT is gone
the "B" people would go according to how much they post in the on-topic forums. those who stayed would of course post less.
the "C" people would be the most probable to leave for ever or for a long time(e.g. until civ3 comes out)

The thing is though Markos is that a lot of these people in the 67% who never go to the on-topic just come, make a few posts without finding the OT and never return again. Most of the OTers are regulars...but I think the reality of the situation is a bit more balanced...

            (Polite cough).

In case anyone missed it, several posts back I offered to re-word the questioning of the interview.

Obviously it's up to AH whether he wishes to do likewise, but I'd hope that this polite suggestion might receive some degree of consideration. We are not pressed for time, after all.

bugs, while posting the interview is not something pressing, our time IS limited, and i'm still afraid the issue is lost cause

so, please ask AH to decide on my pending question.
              thanks in advance

Right, so let me get this straight....

The interview wasn't due to appear for about 6 weeks, seeing as several others were scheduled beforehand.

Despite this, you aren't prepared to accept an AH interview by me for the series, regardless of how might we re-word, re-structure or completely revisit it?

                Is that about right?

AH can make his own mind up on the subject, incidentally. It's his interview.

well, given what we got in our hands, the issue of whether or not there was time before the interview was to be posted was irrelevant. if we needed we could always change the schedule and do another interview first.

no, i'm saying that after seeing what was sent to solver, we dont think it is possible to reach a middle ground. this exchange of posts between my, you and AH is just a sign of this

i didnt ask you to take a decision. i asked you to ask him to take a decision so that the issue is settled

What's wrong with the interview as it is?

Was it the part where I exposed Sid Meir's evil plot against the family? Or where I bashed fan sites for sycophancy? Or where I exposed Markos's crazed internet campaign against Macedonia?

                      1. Markos excellent analysis. You have your thinking cap on. (serious compliment.) (insert ocngratulatory smiley...note Stefu invent one)

                      2. I can't think of an immediate reply to show how important I think the OT is...but give me some time to cogitate on it.

                      3. Seriously, though...don't you think the OT is a huge part of what makes this site?

                      4. And silly ones like Stefu and I are the glue that holds the dry plywood of strat civ stuff together...

Markos, it's been a long time since we've really heard the squeeler squeel. I think another PCR would be good...or how about this...post the interview...but change the replies and deny having done so...learn from AnnC.

Is it my fault if Bugs asked me a bunch of stupid questions not related to civ?

unless you request for the opposite, i'm posting the interview in the OT when i get back from work....

well, if our advertising was based on cpm, you could easily say that the OT was a significant part of the site

now if you can prove that OTers click on ads more....

I'm going to drop this back into your court again, MarkG. You've already heard that I'm willing to change any and all offending points. AH has just said that "everything is negotiable". You have just confirmed that time restraints are not an issue.

You're arguing that we wouldn't be prepared to deliver an acceptable version. How, in the confines of this thread, do we need to word the message that we're willing to change the interview in such a way that you'll actually consider that we might just be willing to do so?
