Can Civ1 be translated to PDA-CIV (Epoch32 , Palm or CE) ???

    Can Civ1 be translated to PDA-CIV (Epoch32 , Palm or CE) ???

    Hey , I'm new to apolyton , but You can guess my aim
    by seeing my name - the question is simply :

    Has anybody seen/heard about a PDA-CIV game or is
    somebody developing a PDA-CIV game (especially for
    my Psion 5MX with loooooong batterylife) ????

    Could someone - from Apolytons moderators perhaps -
    contact SM (no , short for Sid Meier ...) and ask if we can
    transfer his Civ1 , now freeware , somehow ???

    I might go into the subject myself , but my programming
    is a bit rusty and probably inadequate , though I don't
    mind taking up the challenge !!!

    I don't think anyone needs to ask Sid.

    Apolyton in the past has posted where you can download the original classic from a legit website. So I would think that the game is open to anyone.


    Even if you couldn't use the exact code, there are a couple of groups making new civ games in an open source way that have borrowed many of Civ II's graphices.

    In the end the biggest hurdle I believe would be someone actually doing the work and converting it. If you have the know how and are willing to take the time then I am sure there would not be a problem. But it would take time to convert to a new OS.

                      THANKS FOR REPLIES !

                      Hope I'll get more (about CIVgames and OS's ...) and especially thanks
                      to #tniem# for information . BUT I would like to know WHERE to find
                      these groups / WHO they are ! If you know of skillfull people who I can
                      ask silly programming-questions - or if people here may help - I will begin to work on the GAME . Of course I'm selfish enough to write in Epoch32
                      (Psion5MX and EricssonMC218) first ; then I'll gladly help & hand out my
                      experience and may try writing in PalmOS - BUT I haven't got one , so ...
                      Anyway I'll be back here within a day or two (going to see my parents)
                      so please vote and add comments/suggestions/help .
                      By the way , CyberShy , I guess you then voted other ?

                        Hey , I'm back!

                        I just looked at the statistics for the replies/views-section
                        of this thread I started about making PDA-CIV-games :

                        10 replies and 80 (!) views

                        Only 5 persons has taken the BIG inconvenience to vote !

                        What can I say ?

                        Except : PLEASE VOTE
                        (even if you're just curious and want to read more
                        from/about this PDA CIV character ... I mean this highly
                        controversial person , this unlabelled SMAC-believer !?!?! )

                        And an OS-summary :

                        Palm pilot etc. uses Palm-OS
                        Psion 5MX/Ericsson MC218 uses Epoch32
                        HP Jornada / Casio-peia uses Win-CE

                              PDA-CIV:

                              I haven't done any programming with a PDA before, but I was able using google to find a couple of decent sites.

                              First is PDA Street located at http://www.pdastreet.com/.

                              Go to whatever platform you want to program on and then go to Developers link at the bottom of the page.


                              Second is a tutorial to Palm Programming located at http://home.hetnet.nl/~tonicor/palm/tutorial/uk/
