Nevertheless, being down for several hours for the 3rd time in 3 weeks is not a good thing. And why is the clock 3 hours behind every time the server goes down?
We are firm enough on tech, GP, and they have isolated the problem of the previous crashes.
I am told it is the result of certain scripts being run several sites on the network that have been, suffice to say, inproperly programmed. They have contacted the owners of these sites and are actively monitoring the situation. I would say that should the server go down again and it is proven that these scripts are the culprit that GS Tech. will forcibly terminate them.

Hmmm, didn't notice, was sleeping.
Seems to be happening quite frequently as of late.
Any idea what is causing it?
Well, you might not be drinking enough caffeine.
What? It was funny. BTW, the server's still three hours behind time. The only time this ever bothered me was when I posted right before the server went down. It came back up almost immediately, but with the three hour lag. Because of this, any time I tried to post in the next three hours, it gave me the message that posting more than once every forty-five seconds was verboten.

Thanks for the update. Glad to see you stepping in and kickin'ass...umm are we one of the offenders? Is vB an issue?

Now Dan this explanation is still a little fishy...sorta like when electricians try to blame the pump malfunction on the mechanics. Ya gotta push these guys or they will wiggle out without adequately addressing the problem!
I would push for a deeper explanation. We didn't have a problem before, but now we do...therfore: what changed?
Did several independent sites shift to new faulty programming...that sounds unlikely! Did several sites shift to vB and is that the problem? (insert suspicious smilie...side note: Stefu invent one and MarkG apporve it!) Did we go onto a new server and that is the issue? Does one guy control (program) all the misbehaving sites? What about the ads? Or the ISP you guys use? Any big changes there, recently.
I suspect the tech guys are blaming it on the hosted sites and then each time the thing goes down they blame another site. They need to figure out what makes the server go down and then check all hosted scripts...if this is REALLY the problem...
Not meaning to gripe or flame excessively...but troubleshooting can be difficult and technicians can have some mental blocks and avoidance behavior* which prevents them from really taking the bull by the horns and fixing the problem.
*This has been observed and even written about in operations literature.
