This poor system is in sever pain today. Even from work it is struggling to operate. Hopefully this can be addressed soon.

I think it's a server bandwith problem. In theory, this board should be considerably less server-intensive and therefore faster than the last board. Unless, of course, the server is having a problem of some kind...Världsstad - Dom lokala genrenas vän

I'll Take Molasses With That
Everyone:
For the first time in history, I was unable to access Apolyton Sunday because of the molasses-like pace it was running at. There have been other times when Apolyton was unaccessible, but that was due to maintenance issues.
Markos and Dan ... something is wrong. As others have suggested, perhaps it's a server-based problem or something with bandwith.
All I know is that I have other vBB boards — not Apolyton — bookmarked and they come up just fine. I also have other Web sites marked that load fairly promptly. I have Apolyton set to the light version, no avatars. I have no proxy between me and the ISP servers.
Apolyton is consistently slow and unresponsive. It is the only bookmarked site I have that acts this way.

Actually, the server was down yesterday, which should expain why you couldn't reach it. No-one could.Världsstad - Dom lokala genrenas vän

Snapcase:
Hmm ... OK, I didn't know that. Thanks for the update. However, the server crash doesn't absolve TPTB of their responsibility to try and figure out what the problem is regarding the molasses-like speed. Which, I'm sure, they're doing as time becomes available from RL obligations.

It's slow even now. I don't think it's a bandwidth problem since a traceroute didn't indicate anything out of the ordinary. I tend to think it's a probem at the server. What's the load like Markos?

no, from what we have found, it's not a load issue, but a bandwidth issue. for example, last night we had 110 people and load was fine. furthermore our tech informed me that whenever the load is high, it's from perl scripts, therefore, it's not us
now as for the bandwidth. we have not determined yet if the increase in bandwidth use(for which we are certain) comes from us or from the other sites on the server. for our part, there are some sollutions. as a first small step, all guests are browsing the forums with the light style instead of the default one(i should note here that only 143 people are using the light style while 864 have set their settings to the default style). there are more drastic measures we can make but that require work from our tech department, which can take time.
so, stay tuned and try posting during hours with less traffic...Co-Founder, Apolyton Civilization Site

That would seem to sum up that idea, Mark.
The main problem time seems to be between 6PM GMT and 11PM GMT, when the euros are home and many in the US are posting from work.
There are usually between 80-100 members and 20-40 guests in that time period, and that's when it crawls, so the slowness must be tied to the number of people on the site in some way.
It's not just the posting, but even switching from forum to forum, and in using PMs.
I use the light now because at default the time of the wait is considerably longer.
And it's a damn shame, because default has a lot of nice features, but it's just to damn slow!

Well as he said, it is related to server bandwidth. At the moment, Apolyton is quite brisk, and I am suffering from absolutely no delays whatsoever. Luckily the majority of my posting is done during the daytime so I don't mindSpeaking of Erith:
