Problem changing my profile

I just tried to change my profile, and was told I couldn't because "another user already has that e-mail address." Apparently, the system isn't smart enough to know I was trying to change my sig file, not my e-mail, and read my old e-mail (which appears automatically) as a change. Simply deleting the e-mail addresses didn't help any. Ideas, anyone?

Bless you, sir. The "Wagstaff" id was left over from my first attempt to register here; my computer froze up just after I clicked OK, an dI didn't realize for some time that it actually took. By then I'd chosen a new Groucho nom de plume. So sorry
