Yeah I was about to start a thread myself. It takes intrusiveness one level up from Ebay pop-up ads and is just too annoying.
I think these kinds of ads are completely counter-productive because they create a negative perception of the product . Ebay and Tony Hawk sure as hell haven't built their brand with me with their silly ads.
I know the owners of the site have to make money but I think they should draw the line somewhere.

Mark and Dan should be complaining loudly to those who provide the ads. Why? Because the repeated incidents with ads (near-pornographic banners, faulty Java, popups, and now sounds) have doubtless driven many posters to the point of either leaving the site or obtaining ad-blocking software, either of which results in a loss of revenue, the very thing the ads were supposed to provide. As far as I am aware, I am only blocking the banner at the top of the pages and any and all related pop-ups. I apologize to Mark and Dan if this is hurting their cashflow, but the ad situation has become intolerable so often that I have taken preemptive action against further incidents.

Guys, I understand your frustration -- we have it as well -- but I have said the following on numerous occasions: there is nothing that we can do about it. The market is in a crunch and any advertising is what is keeping this site alive, and that is what UGO is doing. All I can recommend is to turn off your speakers or, if you can stand it almost muted, down to the lowest setting. If you would like to complain about the ad, by all means do so... numbers are a powerful voice... but please contact UGO directly.
All the "cashflow" goes to paying the server costs. Hopefully the market will improve in the coming months.
