Please get rid of them. I would pay a swubscription instead of this crap...

Maybe there is a business model around trial free memberships and subscriptions afterwards...

as we have said already in the past, we dont have direct control in the ads.

on the specific ad, i believe that if you dont close it, it wont pop up on you again

and if you're using to any kind of program for more than just killing this pop up, all i can say is thank you for killing this site...

ahh I misread your other post

you said if you DON'T close it it won't come back up again.

        this is true.

BTW they seem to only come up when I hit reply, or edit post.

But multiple windows take up computer resources. My old computer had so little memory, it would slow to a crawl if you had 2 windows open. This is dicrimination against poor people who cannot afford 256 MG of RAM like I have now. I am filing a discrimination lawsuit against EBAY tomorrow.

Markos, the popups, seem too affect other windows (making them popup). This happens when I have the popup minimized or just in behind a different window. Seems worse even than the behavior of porn popups (D'oh!)

What a bunch of grognards! You should not be privilaged to grumble like this until you have made at least one bayonet charge at the thin red line.
Agony of Agonies! Having to look a an ebay box on your task bar. Such oppression. A few extra seconds to load? Just a few milli grans of irritation. My time is billed at $300 an hour, 8 cents a second, & I can stand the wait. After veiwing this pathetic whinning about advertising on a free site, I shall hear no complaints about the privilages I can buy.
If you do not like the ads now just wait. In the near future many click banners will be replaced by large ads taking out a substantial fraction of the page.

:smiley for combining medium derision with mild contemp:

Markos, I'm confused -- WHO does make the decision then to place ads?

They do not appear on the Apolyton site by magic or by themselves without a person to place them there.

As for minimizing the pop-up ad to prevent it from overlapping the forum window everytime, that does NOT work!

If we could keep discussion on this to one thread, that would help.

I strongly support advertising! (but I'm a little biased since the industry does pay the mortgage as they say)
I would prefer to have advertising banners on these forums, then have to pay a fee to use the site.

However, I strongly object to ebay's pop up ads. If it was an "occasional" thing, you close it, and don't worry about it for a long time, that would be one thing. But you close the damn thing, and it pops right up again on the very next screen. While minimizing does provide "some" relief, it still screws things up when you are running other tasks.

I have sent a very polite email to UGO (as DanQ has suggested) explaining why these ads are so annoying, and actually chasing potential viewers of their advertising messages away.

Again, advertising has it's strengths and advantages, but this is not one of them If you want people to see your message and respond, you shouldn't piss them off or chase them away!

Ok Markos - tell Ugo how irritating and annoying those meaningless pop up ads are to the visitors of Apolyton.

Tell Ugo how it antagonizes customers and that it would harm Apolyton through people who would stop visiting and using Apolyton because half the time, a pop up window comes up when you're navigating back and forth (in spite of what you suggested.

Tell Ugo to get rid of those pop ups!

Hmm; I think a few well-placed threads with easy-to-follow instructions on how to block adds and filter out popups would be "motivating" for the admins .
