• Poll: Who thinks yin26 needs some lessons?

First of all, please don't lock this thread, this is a serious/important thread.

I remember the good days in the CTP forum, there were so many interesting posts, even if it was something really small about CTP, it's what kept that forum well alive.

These Civ3 forums are quite dead compared to CTP in its time.

I get the feeling yin26 is forgetting this is not just a suggestion forum, but a general forum. INFACT, it started out as a general forum, and infact again, I see the GENERAL part of it more important than the suggestion part.

So yin26: Stop locking all the damn threads, let people talk about civ3, PLEASE?

    Who agree's?

  • #2
I agree, the title of this forum is, after all, Civ3 General/Suggestions. But it has turned more into a Civ3 Suggestions forum.
I don't have much to say 'cause I won't be here long.

        ContradictioN,

You bore me. Talking about Civ3 is fine. Advertising your site isn't. The thread should have been moved here, where it belongs. If you don't like this policy, complain to Markos. If you still don't like it, leave.

I don't care if I bore you. sheesh

1st, I think advertising your site is fine, what's wrong with saying you have a civ3 site? people might be interested, did you ever think of that? Apolyton is not in competition, you idiot.

2nd, someone has locked one of the Civ3 site is updated threads, what for I don't know. I think that is just way too strict, what is this place? China?

3rd, I have complained to Markos and Dan, but complaining to Markos or Dan isn't enough, these forums are about the people, you, Markos and Dan, aren't all of those people. So it's the majority of the people who matter, I want to ask them directly what they think, because I think there is a problem. YOU are helping to make Civ3 forum boring. YOU are boring.

Last, I found no point in posting this here because I doubt most of the people care about coming to the community forum, that's why I posted it where it's more relevant.

Let's not turn this into a fight, please, I just want to find a solution to the problem. I want to make the Civ3 forum a place where people can GENERALY DISCUSS CIV3. You may think you are, but I know for a fact, you aren't. You are being far too strict. If it has NOTHING to do with Civ3 or Civilizations, for example if it's about cows farting, then sure, lock it, move it, whatever.

What I am seeing is it that what YOU think is not relevant to Civ3 is actualy relevant to most other people.

There's been complaints about your behaviour before, a few times, why don't you think about why that is at least and be more open to other people's thoughts and feelings.

This is how he started his thread, plus his site at this point offers absolutely nothing. Sorry, that's spam. Did you even look at it, hyper-boy? Also, genious, did you even consider I could have just deleted the thread? I locked it, which means he still gets his advertising for a while. Comprende?

Bottom line is, if you think Apolyton is too strict, and if you think Dan and Markos AREN'T the ones to contact to make it "better," you only have one thing left: A ContraditioN-led revolt. Which, speaking from experience with your brilliant posts, will be awfully funny to watch go nowhere.

Read the rules. Think things through. Leave Apolyton.

            Spaz.

            Love,

By the way, I have nothing more to say on this topic with you. Curse, scream, whine all you want. Until Dan or Markos say differently, things stand. Period!

                Contradiction,

I am just curious. What's there "general" to say about Civ 3 when the game isn't even out? You can't even comment on it's packaging, let alone anything else.

As far as I could tell, the forum is all about suggestions and/or wish lists. If you can tell yin why it should be different instead of just screaming at the top of your lungs, perhaps he would be more inclined to listen.

Yin26, I'm shocked!! A forum moderator telling a poster to LEAVE???

Well, I don't know about the general self-advertising policies at ACS, but at CGN we (the mods) were supposed to get new members there, not telling them to leave the forums!

I really don't know about your moderatorship in the Civ3 forum (as in: how you behave there), but that you tell others to leave, although this is not your site and you are a mod, doesn't wearn you much favour, I'm sure.

A regular poster can say what he want, also 'advice' another one to leave

The admin owns the site, it's his thing when he tells a poster to leave the forum.

A moderator, however, should be tarred and feathered for every move like that!

End of the story. Markos, please re-consider Yin26's position.

                        Chaos Warrior,

First, is it your position that a forum is better if ANYBODY AND EVERBODY SHOULD POST WHATEVER THEY WANT WHENEVER THEY WANT? If so, great. Good luck. Apolyton is the strongest Civ site EVER. Coincidence?

I have absolutely no problem saying that certain people should leave Apolyton. However, now that I think about it, I can only think of one case in the two years I have moderating here that this has been so. Hmmm, who could it be? Only a weak forum would even begin to think that bad-mouth spammers should run free (...well, OT has its moments, but that's its purpose in many ways).

Second, as I have hinted, there is already a history here with Contradiction. He came awfully close to being banned for other issues that happened a few weeks ago. See, you are in this in mid-conversation.

Otherwise, I'm an extremely reasonable moderator. Anybody who actually frequents the Civ3 forum knows that...as in, where have you been? But for somebody just walking into this, it might look differently...

By the way, I think you are missing the larger point. If he doesn't like the "China-like" aspect of Apolyton, he SHOULD leave, don't you think? If he's so un-happy in a communist world, perhaps his bags should be packed, eh? Seriously, he wants changes that won't happen. Instead, he repeatedly attacks the moderator and this site.

But I bet he'd be welcome at CGN?

Also, there's nothing wrong with advertising a site in a forum that is related to the same topic as the advertised site... CIV3 site advertising belongs into the CIV3 forum... this is at least the way I see it... you are the mod, you are halfway reasonable. we have reasonable admins, so I think it will all get sorted out. I just wanted to make my point clear.

                              Chaos,

It is a point well-taken. You should know that over the past two years, I've only closed a precious few threads. And it's not that I think Apolyton is in competition with other civ boards.

But with Civ3 "coming soon," we might need to closely consider threads that basically amount to "Come see my site!" Sure, one or two or three of those is no big deal. But a forum can soon be flooded with it.

Perhaps we need a "Come see my site!" forum here at Apolyton? Or perhaps a "Check out this Civ3 site!" thread on the Civ3 forum? That would be easy enough...
