There could be more than two sets, so that anybody can choose the name reflecting his mood/style.

One set could be settler, settler, settler... for people that dislike classes.

Well, Lefty, you & I are now kindred spirits. I have fought to remove post counts altogether, starting almost 2 years ago, on more than 1 occasion. However, I will admit that with the settler-> deity settings actual post counts aren't as important. Previously all we had were "civver" and "junior civver", and people really talked (bragged) about their # of posts. How sad.

Hope that "kindred spirit" thing doesn't bother you too much.

I had an OT thread before Christmas about donating a tenth of one's post count to charity as a symbolic gesture. Went over like a depleted unranium balloon.

Well, postcount titles may be a bit boring but I do like the legendary ones.

Hope some more posters will distinguish themselves on the boards in the coming year/millenium and earn such recognition.

Is there any way of finding out what ones current post-count is ?

Post counts and the ranking system became meaningless IMO when the mods introduced post count reductions for infractions. About the only interesting thing about the post count for me was as an accurate record of how many posts I made.

Now anyone whose had a PCR or has had their count messed up by a site crash has an inaccurate post count. What does it measure in that case? Nothing worth worrying about.

If no-one cares about post counts why is a p.c.r a punishment?

Judging from all the froaning and moaning on the subjecy, It is vlear that many posters do care, and there is the poll taken in another nearby thread on post count.

I care. JK I must publically state I don't care, or I shall be deemed a spammer.

anyways I really don't care. Women don't seem impressed when I tell them I have over 2000 posts at Apolyton. I make futile attempts at a real life, so I have no time to get to Emporer or Diety.

Well its quite simple really - some do care. I guess if you were 14 years old and had no real friends losing a few posts might seem akin to the death of a close relative.

I tried this and it told me only that I am a 'junior civver', not how many posts I have or what ranking I hold... Is there anything else I can do to see my post counts?

As to why someone would care about post count rankings...

From a newbie's point of view, it does seem to matter at the Settler/Chieftain level, at least to the likelyhood of any responses from the more experienced members... Hell, I almost want to change my name to 'Thread-killer' sometimes... Seriously, I have responded to threads or asked questions and then been deafened by the silence. Other times, people are more forthcoming in their responses, but I still feel that some of the more 'senior' posters are biased against responding to the newbie views or questions...

Maybe that is as good an argument as any to eliminate rankings altogether...

                                Just my $.02
