ANNOUNCEMENT: FORUM STATUS
For those that have been able to connect to Apolyton this evening and are experiencing difficulties in our forums, please know that we are aware of the problem and are looking into it right now.
Here is a list of known issues and what to do to report them/try to resolve them yourself. We will update these as needed and are able to do so.
[*]Slow Loading Times: particularly in the forums, it seems. Try a) reloading (refreshing) the page, b) attempt to browse another part of the site, c) visit our hosts' site for a comparison, d) visit another site on the World Wide Web (e.g. Yahoo!) for comparison purposes, and e) visit again in several hours.
If you are still concerned, perform a ping and/or a traceroute within MS-DOS on your PC to learn more. The commands are 'ping apolyton.net' and 'tracert apolyton.net'; the former will give you a speed/reliability report overview while the latter will get specific on the number/description of hops that it takes for you to connect to Apolyton and any other server you wish to query for that matter.
If you wish to send the results of your traceroute, email them to DanQ and MarkG. Please do not include or send separate ping reports.
[*]Blank Forums: some people have reported to us that certain forums appear to have no threads in the them whatsoever. As far as we can tell, these forum indexes will need to be rebuilt and no data has been lost.
To report a blank forum and/or specific thread problems within a forum, please email MarkG with as much detail as possible.
[*]Forum Account Difficulties: there have been reports of certain people's accounts going screwy; as these incidents first started to roll in we were able to find the account profile in our database but all of its key information, e.g. username/email address associated with it etc., appears blank thus not allowing people to post altogether.
To report a specific problem in this regard, email MarkG with as much detail as possible.
The reason for all of these difficultes are unknown at this point -- we are concentrating on resolving them first and then working to see what happened exactly to try to avoid it from happening again, or at least minimizing the problems.
We thank you for your patience and apologize for any inconvenience.
