I like the post counts... But I see where you're comming from...

If you're going to make a change anyway (which you can if you wish) then instead of making it so that the post count dosn't rise; could you make it so that the post count dosn't even disply? This would be much more effective...

They are pretty bad, they are good in some ways but promote spamming in some people... good thing not all people care about post counts... but there are those who really do... too much as a fact.

I wonder how long apolyton will be around... I plan on staying here for the next 3 years (finishing high school) and if I can get internet access in colege I'll be here for those four years... possibly for the rest of my life... you might think this is pretty pathetic, but I won't spend as much time as I do now . This place is very interesting... I'll probably stop playing civ in about a year... but this site has a very interesting connection of people... most of us are smarter than the average bear...

You learn pretty quickly who are the spammers and who aren't. And if someone makes a lot of sense to me, I'll make a point of remembering their name. Their title only makes an impact the first couple of times I see them until I can form my own opinion as to how Civ cluey they are.

          Arguments for Post Counts:

          1. They can be used by Mods to threaten people. (Example: Don't do that or I will take off from your post count)
          2. See which posters spam most. Without them, we wouldn't have identified ProvostB or Djug as easy.
          3. Keeps track of who frequents the site most.
          4. The people voted for it,
          5. Identifies lurkers.
          6. The Civ2 Titles look cool.

            PERFECT SOLUTION:

Keep post counts, but put them under "Profile"!

That way, you can see how many posts you've made, check out those of others, etc, without having those titles in your face.

But what do I know? I am but a humble Warlord.

              I've GOT IT!!!

              Mark, Dan, Ming...think on this,

Take Diety out of the post count loop, assign Diety only to those posters who you guys feel are quality contributors to the site. Every moderator could look out for outstanding members of our little civilization and make suggestions to the top brass...

What do you think? Spammers would lose out and quality posters recieve recognition!

btw, this is yet another example of quality posting from Lancer!

Actually, not a bad idea. Once they get to emperor... But that still leaves lots of room for spam

True Ming, but you guys have a fairly good idea of how ppl get to Emp. Spamming prior might effect your decision as to whether you recommend them for Diety status later, yes?

Also, it is a law of nature that administrators cannot spam (statement from MarkG, Feb 2000).

Well I gotta admit, I mean I had all my brain cells lit up like Christmas to come up with this idea and was hoping for some comment other than "test".
