  • Post Counts...Good for Apolyton?

It seems to me that Mark, Dan, Ming & MLeonard are having to chase after threads specificly created to increase post counts. Some ppl consider that the higher their post count the better off they are. This means we have to put up with a bunch of spam both in this forum and within our threads. This spamming trend has been recently reinforced, certainly unintentionally, by the top brass around here by the inclusion of titles, Warlord, Prince, King, etc which are tied to post count, right? Not only is this a motivation to spam but is contrary to a healthy forum in my view as it will tend to drive away new ppl who have no wish to spam or to remain at the bottom of a social ladder they can't hope to climb without spamming. Maybe they just want to talk Civ in the Civ forums and then go chat w/ their friends a bit in the OT without being reminded that they are a Prince...maybe they play Civ at Diety and consider it an insult.

Let's lose the post counts and titles for the good of these forums which we enjoy so much. Let's look past our egos and do the right thing.

I'm interested to hear thoughts on this.

    Let's keep this thread a spam-free zone.

Who are you to tell me that, Lancer, you're a mere Emperor. I won't accept this kind of treatment off anyone less than a deity

Geeez Cthol, you only come into my threads to complain. If it belongs in the Apolyton thread then the Admins will move it there without your *****ing.

You are right I think though.

Provost made the observation I was about to make.

That said, although I think post count not important, I have to admit to being curious how many posts I have made, as an indication of how much effort I have wasted (er I mean contibuted) here.

I think we need to live with it.

Well Provost you know he started this thread simply to increase his post count. If you think he treats you bad now just wait till he reaches deity...

They're a lousy idea. I've no time for them at all. I've never known a site where they haven't proved to be more trouble than they're worth.

In my opinion the overall quality of posting took a fall after the titles were introduced. I moaned like a professional at the time, but would they listen......?

Sure, some ppl spam. The penalties are also getting more severe... I hope that soon the penalties will be very high, and then the ranking system will finally ONLY serve the purpose it was created for: fun.

Cthol, calm down a little bit please.

Here's an idea, I don't know if UBB supports this or if it can be made to, but, how about making one of the spamming penalties either a temporary or even permanent disabling of post count incrementing. So after someone gets back from their 2 week vacation they have say 3 months to look forward to before their post count begins to increase again.

                      Comments?

                        Oh well... back from lunch

Yeah, this is being moved to where it belongs in the Apolyton Section.

But a comment or two first.
Spam has always been a problem, even when there were just two titles. Some people just love to see their names in lights, and it will continue whether the title system stays or not.

Two, everybody voted on the system, and this is what they wanted... so be it.

Three, I like the fact that their is a big gap between emp and deity. If people are title freaks, once the get to emp... all the spam in the world isn't going to help.

Four, I was against this system in the first place for the reasons you suggest. But now, I don't think it really makes a difference because of what I said in my first point.

Five, It was nice that the owners actually had a vote on it, and then did what people want. They put a lot of work into doing what people wanted, so why change it now.

                        Moved to Apolyton Forum...

Ok, sorry Ming, didn't mean to make more work for you.

Also didn't know about the vote...I was here for the discussion but in the Phils for the vote I guess.

Well, if the majority want it...

well I've always believed the majority couldn't find their ass with both hands,

                          ...then so be it.

Can still talk about it though, can't hurt.

Many people did object to it, and voiced their opinions at the time of the vote. So there are some that agree with you. Again, after seeing the before and after, I really don't think it makes one bit of difference.

And no, it doesn't hurt to talk about it... as long as it is in this forum, and not the OTF

First, like Ming said, there's always been "spam" though what people call spam now used to be simple non-sense threads, etc, and nobody had a problem with it then. It seems that some people are a bit more anal about it now than they used to be. . . understandably i suppose, since there's more posters.

i don't think the system should change though, i like it the way it is.
