  • Certain threads should restrict certain posters

OK this is my plan to reduce spam. Serious topics that the posters don't want hijacked can just be allowed access to certain members (similar to sidgames). This way bad posters such as myself would not be allowed to post in those threads. Yes I'm certain this will create a certain amount of backlash, but the desired effect will be achieved. And if you note some sarcasm in this thread you may be correct. but 50% of me thinks this is a good idea. thoughts? comments?

*Kumi drowns in sarcasm and irony oozed by this thread*

Sorry Mark, never will there be a moment that everyone posting on Apolyton will be mature enough to respect the legitimately good and interesting threads. People will come and go, some who stay may even learn that bit of maturity that keeps the spam in check from the places it doesn't belong to. But those will always be replaced by a new generation of undesirables, and the new blood has to keep flowing in to keep the site growing. It's a no-win cycle.

                IMO, this idea is stupid.

Of course it's stupid, but do you think that will stop us from "discussing" it? As it happens, life on Apolyton is all about post count no matter what anyone says. That's why we make these threads where we can get a lot of posts in rapidly while maintaining a (rather shaky) illusion of on-topicness. Even the tough-arse moderators like Ming spam. What do you think all those "case closed" posts are all about, huh? Not like they're necessary.

Crap idea, it would just become a case of tit-for-tat all the time if people were excluded, and would end up becoming personal. And why not have a spectrum of opinions on a topic, this could mean the exclusion of atheists from christian threads or vice versa, or socialists from capitalist threads. A definite thumbs down...
