• UGO situation becoming intolerable...

Yes, I am becoming fed up with their slowness of late. This is disturbing me because I can sit there, beginning to write a post or browsing through a page when I get hurried away to a 'This page cannot be displayed page' and have to go back and stop the download because the thing is so damn slow! Would it be possible admins to get onto them and get them to sort this speed issue out...it is getting annoying.

    Thanks

. I concur, add that take more load time than the rest of the page are insupportable, particularly the type with continuing anitmation that never finishes.

The quick fix for this one is to use Netscape. It's only Internet Exploder that does this when an ad banner cannot be displayed.

I agree, too, but we must remember that MarkG and/or DanQ must find another company to advertise, which takes time. And also remember that they are supporting this site ALONE. Maybe UGO bid the highest or has the highest paying rate for their services.

This is not entirely true. On two or three occasions during the past few months, this has happened to me in Netscape. It only happened on one site (I don't remember which one).

It is our hosts, GameStats, who would be the ones to try to find another advertiser; that said, I don't believe there is sufficient reason to start this discussion again.

Admittedly, you are not going to like every ad or every type of ad but, then again, we cannot please everyone. Nonetheless, banners of questionable content will continue to be pointed out to UGO if and when they arise in the future.

It's not the content of the ads, Dan, it's the speed of UGO's ad server. It gets really slow and affects the loading of the rest of the page.

Markos - can't you put in the height and width attributes on those ad image tags so the rest of the page will load without waiting for the ads to come through? I checked the source and those attributes aren't there.

Well my point is not to place pressure on the admins, already being squished under their workload, but if they get the chance, to have a quick 'tete-a-tete' with the powers-that-be and get them to tell UGO to get its server up to speed.

                    Urban Ranger:

I don't know why you didn't address your question to me as well, but to answer: modifying UGO's ad code in any shape or form is not permitted on our part.

UGO's server speed and/or your connectivity to UGO's server is something that we cannot control.

                      Hi Dan,

No, I don't mean modifying the actual ad codes. There should be an image tag <img> If you add the width and length attributes to that tag, the browser will make a rectangluar box for that image and then continue to load the rest of the page.

If the length and width tags are missing, then the browser has to finish loading the actual image before continuing, since it can't tell how much space to reserve for it.
