  • Why?

I seem to recall discussion about this in the past, but, foolishly, I didn't pay attention. I run both Netscape and IE 4.5. IE handles this site quicker than Netscape. Problem is, when I'm using IE, the site refuses to acknowledge it has met me before. I don't get the date and time of my last visit, I don't get the little coloured boxes telling me which forums have had posts since I last visited. You get the drift.

Now, I have set IE to accept cookies. I've done everything. As far as I know. In the address line, I get, apart from the usual stuff, "intro+BypassCookie=true". Which I don't get with Netscape.

    Any (relevant) thoughts most welcome.

Could it be related to your security settings?

Well, I just checked the security settings. Nothing seemed untoward. Is there anything in particular I need to check?

Mmm. Not sure how, but I seem to have fixed the problem. I changed a couple of the settings - telling IE never to check for changes to pages in the cache, etc. Oh well, the mysteries of the internet.

There's the problem: Internet Exploder does a very bad job of cache management. If a copy of the page is available in the cache, it should check to see if the version is out of date, and fetch a newer copy if it is. However, it never does.

Okay. Thanks for that. On the whole, I've always preferred Netscape because it does everything it's meant to do. It's just slower than IE 4.5, with this site anyway.

I had the exact problem that finbar had - except it was with Netscape 6. Then for reason, it began working...

But then now I'm back to IE 'cause Netscape's too slow!

Well, I've avoided Netscape 6 after what I've read about it on this and the OT forum. With 4.6, the recognition thing is simply a matter of setting it for cookies to be accepted. IE seems to be a lot more complicated. You're right, though, IE is quicker with this site. Damn it.
