I never classified it as "porn" myself, fred; this is/was the wording of others. I simply said I would inquire with UGO regarding the content of the some of the banners, and am still awaiting a response.

That said, I haven't seen any banners I would classify as 'questionable' for almost a week (so perhaps that was my response).

Anyone else want to comment on this..? Lews?

I never said it was porn. But it sure is irritating, and embarassing if you open a screen and it's there in full view of other people in a public place.

Ummmm what the hell is so bad about the Heavyweight ad? Are you afraid of women or something? Geez grow up and live in the real world. So the mention of heavyweight is naughty in some way? Better tell that to Mike Tyson

What bugs me everytime someone complains about the ads that help support this great site is we are here because we play civ, correct? Civ is a game where we kill, use spies to steal, poison, nuke things, and in some instances we starve people in order to build better weapons to kill more. If the picture of a beautiful woman offends someone(remember these women have damn clothes on,many times its just a pretty face), yet they enjoy a game of killing ,violence and war, what does that make that person? A hypocrite and a fool in my eyes. I get the feeling people have too much time on their hands or just get off on complaining. I have said it before and I will say it again, do you people never ever watch tv(miss america pagents show more flesh than a UGO ad for god's sake)?read magazines? go outside where billboards of naked people exist? go to school where certainly you see females?
Do you same people not complain when Quake shows blood?

Who cares what ads are on this site,I never look at the silly ads anyway, although I may look if they have naked women on them.

Oh the porn ads aren't that bad. It's the one that suggested some ppl might be better off being dead that really pissed me off. Fortunately, I only saw it once about a month ago, so I guess that means others were offended with that one as well.

As for the "porn" ads... oh well... if they really start to annoy me I just turn webwasher on for a few weeks

No...I don't have a fear of women. You obviously didn't read what I posted.

If you are posting in school or at work and someone sees those ads on your screen, they'll probably think you're at some porn site, and then it might lead to some difficulty or embarassment(e.g. suspension of web access or even dismissal).

I read your post Phoenix, just giving you hell.
As far as getting in trouble, once someone fully looks at the ad they would see it wasn't at all pornographic, and if your at school you shouldn't be on Apolyton anyway. For you Phoenix I do make an exception, being in Singapore standards and morals are different than america and I understand your view. My post is more directed at the usual american complaining. For you I would reccomend a blocking program so you don't get any unwanted hassles.

In theory, those ads are sufficiently suggestive that if they showed up when I am visiting Apolyton from my university's computer lab, I would be barred from using the computers there ever again (under the heading of "downloading offensive materials"). For a computer science major, this would be incredibly inconvienient. In practice, no one cares.

Wow Mark I didn't know the Vatican had a university , cuz I don't know of ANY university that would take away computer privleges for an ad with a clothed woman or animated game girl while you are on a site that is text based. An ad is not"downloading offensive material" perhaps you need to take a few more college english classes to understand the difference between download and advertisement. LOL I am starting to think all you guys are Amish or something.

Like I said, that's the *strict* interpretation of the policy. The policy that is enforced is "if the police don't complain about it, it's ok."

Considering most gamers are sex starved losers that's good advertising on the part of UGO/Gamestats....

Do we have any actual complaints from anyone getting in trouble from school.

WHY THE **** WOULD YOU BE LOOKING AT APOLYTON FROM SCHOOL ANYWAY

In the four-hour period between my 2:00-3:15 class and my 7:10-8:25 class. I need something to do, and it's a 45-minute drive back to my house.
