[*] no e-mail addresses from free mail services are allowed(as it is explained in the registration process and our FAQ(which is linked from the registration page)

Again to avoid fake and double logins. It is very easy to get a second e-mail to create a fake login. We ask that you use the e-mail address your ISP gave you. If you don't have such an address please contact us at markg@apolyton.net or dan@apolyton.net

Incidentally, thii isn't foolproof either. Take my account - my given email address is with freeserve. Now, so long as the stuff after the @ is the same, freeserve cares not what comes before the @, it all gets put in the same server-based mailbox and leaves outlook to do the sorting. Essentially, I've got an infinite number of email addresses to choose from. The church is the only organisation that exists for the benefit of its non-members

Edit that out!
Besides, isn't having this no-free-email system sort of dumb because the admins catch DLs anyway, with Ip checks.

How about this compromise?

Have the current no-free-email system for login validation only. However, allow the user to list another email account for display in their profile (and this one could be free).

I feel the same way as ultrasonix. I don't list my e-mail here 'cos it's the e-mail provided by my ISP. But I list it at CGN 'cos they allow the free-e-mail to be displayed.
Why not have the system which Ultrasonix suggests?
It would work in just the same way that the icq no. is used. Sure, some people will type nonsense in that field (or might even list someone else's address), but that's a small price to par....I think.

Heh. I'm just glad that I registered before any of this was in effect, so I don't have to hide my email addresssince I don't ever use my ISP address either.
UltraSonix suggestion is probably technically impossible... it would be a nice solution though...
There is a solution though: put your email address in your location field, or in your interests field for that matter, so that people will see it when they look at your profile...
And for those that have no ISP email address, the solution is in the FAQ: email Mark & Dan and they'll work out a solution for ya

The thing was, when I first arrived and read the faq - it all sounded too intimadating (not criticising your hard work Narck) - there was all these rules I had to follow. So if you were a newbie and had never heard of this site before, having to email someone to just get a login would probably put you off.
So that's why I made the suggestion above...[see above!]

The simplest method is to find a free email service that isn't on their list. Once you're registered, they are unlikely to come after you based only on your email address.

Sure glad I registered before these rules took effect.
Why?
I don't have an eddress and don't want one at home. (I get bothered enough at work, and wouldn't want confirmations sent to work or to my wife's eddress)
Am I the only one that has never had one listed in the dB? (Good for later trivia contests)

I DONT think so, just to add one more field in the profile.

Perhaps you could go to one of the UBB hacking forums and ask nicely if they can make one. Then, once it's available, you could try and ask Markos nicely if he'd be willing to install it
