  • The Arthur C. Clarke Quote

    You know, the one that sometimes flashes up after posting.

    I think "posible" is spelled wrong there.

        I think it appears after 'reply with quote'.

        Edit: well, it's Mark Twain allright, but the word possible doesn't occur there:
        <center><table width=80%><tr><td><font color=000080 face="Verdana" size=2><font size="1">quote:
        <img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1>
        </font>"It is better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you a fool, than to open it and remove all doubt"
        -Mark Twain
        <img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>

          maybe it's when you post a new topic?

            Yes, I had the same thought and tested it, the Clark quote appears after posting a new topic and there is indeed a typo there:
            <center><table width=80%><tr><td><font color=000080 face="Verdana" size=2><font size="1">quote:
            <img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1>
            </font>"If an elderly but distinguished scientist says that something is posible he is almost certainly right, but if he says that it is impossible he is very probably wrong."
            -Arthur C. Clarke

              Thank god for that, I was beginning to doubt myself.

              WOuld have had to change my name to Thomas.

                I'd just like to express my agreement with the quote (in its correctly spelt form of course).

                Naturally it overrides Occam's Razor (for anyone who disagrees with my beliefs)

                  OK, now that Paul has found out where the original 'New Quotes' thread was, I must say that I feel I am a bit responsible for the typo, as far as I typed it incorrectly when I suggested the quote.

                  Note: but that's nothing compared to the pride I feel because the quote was indeed implepented by MarkG and DanQ...

                  And, yes, Gary, I find the sentence absolutely true.

                    I like another Arthur C. Clarke quote better:<blockquote>Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.</blockquote>

                      I prefer its corollary:

                      <center><table width=80%><tr><td><font color=000080 face="Verdana" size=2><font size="1">quote:
                      <img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1>
                      </font>Any technology that is distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced.
                      <img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>

                        I really, really like that quote, especially in the context it is used here

                            for a moment here I thought that JEtW would be complaining about it...my mistake.
