  • Remove who's online feature...

I've noticed since the Who's online hack has been added the forums have gone VERY slow. This hack is only a Beta and could be the reason for this. I know when I pinged my UBB after I added this feature, pings were up by 50ms. This hack isn't that useful, and I know it would take a long time to remove, but for our modems sake can't it be deleted?

ping doesnt have anything to do with the actual speed of the machine, but with it's connection to the internet...

I kind of like the feature actually. It let's me know who's likely to respond to a post I make.

I also like seeing my own name in that section. It's a pity that it only shows up on it when I post from home. At the office, it doesn't work. I think it's 'cos they disabled javascript.

I didn't like the feature at all, but I was relieved to discover that it could be turned off at will. I haven't noticed any slowdown.

Nope, no slowdown for my computer (not noticed anyway). Anyway, I quite like the feature, it let's you know whether someone is likely to reply or not.

Just out of curiosity, how do you turn it off?

(add me to the slows down sites/rather useless crowd. You should add the spellchecker hack instead.)

                  Bulldog,

It's Perl, which means once it's loaded in memory, it runs like lightning. The problem is when the script gets loaded initially. But Markos is right, ping usually isn't a reliable indicator of your machine loading since you get all that junk in between. The only possible exception is when you have a direct connection to your server, but then you don't need ping to find out the load

I like it too. As long as it's not causing any huge slow-down I'd prefer it was kept.
