No, I wasn't here for the previous elections. Did people actually take them seriously?

Let me explain Ming's reaction...
People took the original elections SO GOD-DAMNED SERIOUSLY that a flame war erupted after "The Grand Alliance" (engineered by Imran & Starchild as a combination of about four or five parties) lost not one election, but TWO, and started a revolution to depose LordStone1 (head of the ultimately victorious Apolyton Unaffiliated Party, of which I now regret being a member). I was caught up in a flurry of insults with Mike Jeszenka, and it became so annoying that I actually considered leaving these forums (something LS1 eventually ended up doing), but I loved them too much to go. Then Ming came, and everything was suddenly right in the world.
Believe me, Murg, people took the original elections seriously enough to turn it into a flame war. If you don't believe me, ask Imran, Starchild, LS1, GS, David Floyd, Coug, etc. (but by PM or e-mail - keep it out of the public square) to recount their experiences with the original elections. As far as I'm concerned, the elections were the OT's darkest hour.
