Please delete the Small Chinese Boy thread and ban the originator of the thread.
Thank you.

Oooh. Harsh. I thought it was rather funny, in a surreal kind of way. I was surprised it got locked, whilst calling for a ban comes as something as a shock to me.
I found the whole thread dehumanizing, whether its the talk of owning "servants" (read: slaves), killing people, or escaping justice.

I protest against this. More than half may have been about the chinese boy, but otherwise, Gregor and I were having a serious conversation about plans next summer which had absolutely nothing to do with Victor, the chinese boy.
While I found it shocking that he was basically a slave-owner, I did not find this racist. Would it have been racist if he had owned a small white boy from Albania?
And there was only one post about killing a person.
This was a man describing his own life. I don't believe he's racist. If there was a white boy from Albania that was cheaper, he'd have gotten him instead of the chinese boy. He just grew up in a different culture and it was quite fascinating to learn about it.
Not everybody can be perfect like us, ok? I find this action very insulting to Gregor and very smug of you rich white boys who think every body should have the same standards and culture knowledge as you. Not everybody has their own beige computer that their daddy gave them, and their own room in some villa in the South of France, with their own maid waiting on them.
If I started a thread about my Hispanic house maid, would that thread be closed because it was insulting or racist? No, I would just be describing a part of my life that comes for about 5 hours on Tuesdays and Fridays and cleans the house and does everyone's laundry. That is the standard you are setting for us!
Gregor was describing a member of the help who happens to be exceptional. Should we penalize him for that? Should we celebrate that? Neither! We should simply listen, ask questions, protest, and learn as a people!

No, I did not say it was cool. I said it was fascinating. It's a learning experience. If we had people like you ruling the world, we'd never learn about the Holocaust or Kosovo or what the Turks did to your people. To simply ignore this is to repeat history!

There you go again, thinking everything must conform to your culture! I'll have you know that the slave trade is alive and well in Central Africa, and that the people there think nothing wrong of it. The same exists in rural Indochina.

Victor (the chinese boy) couldn't really be called a slave. He is given food, a nice master like Gregor, and housing. Moreover, in two years, he returns to Bangkok. This would be called an indentured servant. Work for 2 years, then he goes free or goes into more training.
Money is not just cold, hard cash. Money is food, money is shelter, money is freedom from fear!

I didn't think it was a serious thread at any point. I just assumed it was a rather funny piece of surreal humour, which is why I was surprised that people were offended by it.
For instance, how many people would be offended if I posted about the small group of Sherpas I keep in my cellar to help me get the lids off jars?
Oh well. It looks like everyone else thinks it was serious so I'll leave it...
