  • Sticky Threads

Well, that's how the creator of this wonderfull hack calls it, so we'll call it that way too. The administrators and the moderators now have the posibility to "stuck" a thread to the top of the forum summary so that is always visible.

Examples of the new hack are the "birthday chat" thread in this forum, the "list summary" thread in the civ3 list forum and the "overview" thread in the clash forum

    Yeah go stuck some threads

Nah, this is a good improvement and will hopefully stop farcical incidents like Black Saturday from happening once more.

    Three cheers for sticky threads!

yeah, it seems to be far easier doing something via an automated computerized system than by talking people into it

IMO, the black saturday (what a terrible name - oh well) had nothing to do with the infamous thread not being visible - at the top or otherwise. It resulted from an unfortunate decision of prohibiting people from posting to the thread - and keeping it open nonetheless. I think we've all grown wiser from that particular experience, and I don't think we'll ever see that happening again, sticky threads or not.

On the subject of sticky threads, it seems to be a helpful feature, to the mods and admins obviously, but also for the common poster. It helps to keep "must see"-threads visible without the moderators having to bump it all the time.

I'm all for it, but I have a small request: Could you please put some kind of mark on the threads so the posters will know which they are? I ask this because I'm in the habit of opening threads from the top of the forums first, and so it would be helpful to be able to immediately identify threads that have been promoted to sticky status the first time they top the page.

                  Thank you.

While I will agree with you Legman that it would be nice to be able to tell if the top thread is a sticky thread or not... I will totally disagree that this option should be available to the regular posters. Heck, every thread would then become a sticky thread...

You know you can always count on me, Ming.

I admit I could have worded it better the first time around, but anyway, could we have a mark added to sticky threads, Mark?

I'm glad you agree with my request for having the sticky threads marked in some way Ming, but you must've misread part of my post, because I didn't say that I wanted this to be available to regular posters. What a mess that would be.

                        <center><table width=80%><tr><td><font color=000080 face="Verdana" size=2><font size="1">quote:
                        <img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1>
</font>... it seems to be a helpful feature, to the mods and admins obviously, but also for the common poster
                        <img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>

This was meant to come through as: It's a helpful feature for the mods and admins to use, and for the common poster to have applied to the forums.

Yeah legman... you are right. I totally misunderstood that part of your post. After rereading it, I see what you mean. It's just that after I first read it, I had these visions of EVERY post by a regular poster being a sticky post.... ARGHHHHHHHH!

                            Markos,

Maybe you should make your "Name Change Archive" thread sticky.
