The thirteen-year-old will possibly get the impression that women can be treated as "pets" and that it's Ok to use expoitation of the female body to promote a totally unrelated product. Plus, the ad is clearly an offer of prostitution.
    <img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>

Let me explain something. While I see your point, and acknowledge that SOME people are like that, you also can't pin that on ALL 13 year olds. I'm only 13 myself, and I know sammyboy (were he here, and not on vecation (real, not mod. induced)) would be fighting for this side (if he noticed this thread), and he's the youngest 'announced' poster. So, while you mean only good, be sure that you don't say 'all 13 year olds'.

but I can't see any reasonablly intellagent person not being able to understand what we're saying. It is simple enough ---- those adds offend many people:

<img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>a real problem exists when there is a significant number of people who have concerns about something. sorry, but if an ad doesnt look nice to 2 people, it's not a problem

My advice: ignore the ads. I've learned to never even look at the top inch of my screen whenever I visit Apolyton. Works well

This is what you get when some Apolyton posters are bored For what is worth MarkG, I wholeheartedly support your position in this matter.

Now, a philosophical question: why is it that most of these complaints about sex et al are posted by our youngest American colleagues?

Has anyone seen the Discovery channel ad about two mosquitoes who love to travel? Isn't that one hilarious?

Quick fix for those who visit Apolyton at work: use a program that blocks ads, such as Proximitron.

I don't think it really matters. If even ONE person is offended by an add, and can prove his/her case to be a valid one, then I believe that the add needs to be protested. It is clear that we have a valid reason for taking the add down. I'm having trouble seeing what else you don't understand.

As I said earlier in this post, it every much is a problem. If someone here comes along and starts flaming hindus, or chineese, or any other race, then you have a problem, no matter how many people complain. Well that add is flaming half of the popluaton of the earth.

                      <center><table width=80%><tr><td><font color=000080 face="Verdana" size=2><font size="1">quote:

Ok, Apolyton is a popular site. I don't see what that changes. These banner adds give people the impression that Apolyton is 'that kind' of site --- which (to date), it isn't. I could easily see adds such as these driving away users. btw, don't try to pull the old 'The Apolyton Icon at the top of the page.' No matter how many users you have, to the majority of the world, the word 'Ultimate' in greek means very little.

                      <center><table width=80%><tr><td><font color=000080 face="Verdana" size=2><font size="1">quote:

                      A) Now I've seen it, and I'm still offended. B) If it offends one person, then I feel that I have a moral duty to see it removed. In this case, the people who are offended have made a very good case, and I believe that they really are offended. Also (in this case), I am one of the people offended --- I'm offended by ALL adds of this type.

I'm sorry. To me, it seemed that when you said 'The 13 year old', you were making a large generalization about ALL 13 year olds. If you didn't mean it that way, then I'm sorry, and retract any comments that I've made.

I hope you meant that smile seriously, because I'm not laughing. If I were you, then I'd rethink my statements... You're liable to offend someone who'll pay more attention then I will.

Indeed adaMada has proven what the world would be like if it was run by 13-year-olds. And it is one very disturbed vision I grant you that. This little brat whines more than a bunch of dikes (has to do with water little boy).

Puritans, what have they wrought upon the world?!

                            Just an Observation!.

P.S. Anything I can do to help sufficate the noise from this obnoxious gadfly?

                              1) when I wrote about our pageviews, I was replying to the statement you made about people leaving. Well, the numbers say that people are not leaving, especially in an almost dead period for civ games

                              2) Of course if someone is offended by an ad he can complain about it. But we can't jeopardise everyone's free service for the sensitivity of one person. Sorry, that's life.
This doesnt mean that when many people have a problem with something(pop-up) they are ignored

                              3) Half of the population of the earth does not visit Apolyton therefore whether or not it is offended by this ad is not our concern. Our concern is to provide a good, free service to civers. Beyond that, I have yet to see one of the female apolytoners to complain about this ad.
