• Hate the ad inappropriate ad banners? DO something...

I say lets just show them that their banners are having a reverse affect. From this day forward I vow not to go to a single UGO page until UGO takes the inappropriate ad banners off of Apolyton (that includes GameLeague, maybe I should not say this but, I can not belive that crap like that is on a site I help maintain.) So if you will take this vow with me please respond below. I don't think it would be that hard to get 200+ sigs, and the we can email that to UGO and see what they do. If they leave the banners up after that then the are stupid because that is a lot of money to spend to drive people away from you site.
Those who reply below agree to the fallowing vow.

I, _(name)_, vow not to go to a single UGO page until UGO takes the inappropriate ad banners off of Apolyton.

I will be the first to reply.

BTW, can some of you "off topicers" talk this up in the off-topic section for me? thanks.

1) being more specific on which exactly are the "inappropriate" banners would help

2) I hope you're not forgeting that even the "inappropriate" ads are keeping your site alive

The banners are just something that you have to put up with. I assume that they generate revenue for the site, so as Mark points out, they keep the site going. They`re a minor inconvenience at the most.

GP, we would love to be in the financial possibility to have no ads on the site at all or at least choose the ads one by one.
but we're not

Mark: Take a bit more responsibitlity please. it is YOUR site and has the potential to affect YOU since it's youre site as well. It's too easy to say "i have no control over it" . . that doesn't make the problem go away, it's just a cop out. Sure, i know you need the ad revenue, and i KNOW you can't pick the ads. But that's irrelevant.

I, Apathetic Dreamer, vow not to go to a single UGO page until UGO takes the inappropriate ad banners off of Apolyton.

the specific banners that offend ME personally at the moment are
the "robin sliding down the batpole"
"supermans xray glasses"
"the penthouse pets banner"
and the "need a place to store your porn site passwords"

these are NOT apprpriate for a "family" site. If it gets worse, i WILL stop coming to apolyton at all.

and THAT is how it could affect you, so mark and dan, i suggest you start caring.

OK, wait a minute, how many of us actually went to ugo.com anyway? Whether because of the ads or not.

I think the site would look a lot classier without the off-color banners. Markos, by that I mean the ones that were listed a while ago in one of the other threads here. "heavyweight" and those like that one.

well i never did but that is not the point. maybe if they see people that say the ads actully make them want to stay off the site then they will change the ad strat. markos i understand that those ads are keeping my site alive but and i also understand that how much ugo does or does not pay GS has no affect on me since they will still be paying me the same $0 and i asume that if GS stops getting much money from UGO then the will find some one else to display their ads on the top of every page. i for one am willing to try to do something about which i am not supose to be able to do anything about. i am tired of just sitting on my hands while this crap is still on a web site is spent my time making. i do not want a website that is suported by crap like that. and as for the which banners do i find in "inappropriate" i think God gave us all a brain capable of figuring out that a least some of these banners should not be seen by our eyes (at least not my eyes, the eyes of a christian minor). If these sites actully contained what they hint at containing it would be illegal for me to go there. (i hope this message was readable, it is after 2am)

I am sorry mark and dan but i really thought you had higher eithic. i mean i know there have been whose ads but this has been going on for atleast 6 months. you can do nothing??? are you telling me this is the only site in the world that will give you free space and free bandwidth if you let them show about 1 million of their banners per month. i mean for that deal i will buy a web server, let you use it, and put my banners on the top of every page.

btw, please tell me how many ads on tv have offended you, and how many tv channels you've stopped watching because of their ads

BW, you're geting payed the amount of money you would have to spent to get: (unlimited) space on a webserver, unlimited bandwidth, a subdomain, your own cgi-bin, access to an sql server, an over-featured ubb forum, exposure from apolyton and the rest of the gs network, etc, etc

While I too have griped about the ads on UGO, I have noticed that they seem to be a bit better lately. Ads for the electronics stuff and Spike Radio for example. Perhaps the best way to vote is with your dollar. Go VISIT the good ads and ignore the bad. In a free market the "good" advertisers should make UGO more money and encourage UGO to pursue other "legit" ads. Having said that, are there no other companies that provided that same service as UGO? With all the demographic data that Apolyton has, I would think that ACS is there two ton gorilla that could sit wherever it wants to sit!

OK, questioning the content of banner ads is one thing, BlueWaldo, but questioning my ethics is another. You are out of line.

If you or anyone else has a beef with an ad you see on ACS, logon onto UGO's website (as I suggsted in another thread) and get a contact name/address and write to them, civily, and voice your concerns.

sorry dan, i was mad about a few other things at the time also. i am just tried of it going on and on. i am sure most people feel the same way that we understand some stuff happens like this but it has just been going on so long, and i don't like the idea of it being on my site. it just seams like you and mark who have the most power here are ingoring it. you say goto UGO and complain, but they will listen to you long before they listin to us. i just wish you 2 would do something stead of just pushing it of on us. i re-read my message about 30min after i posted it and relised it sounded a little harsher than i ment, but i changed my username so i can not edit it. can you please delete it for me.

markg you point about the tv ads is vaild but not for me because i own gameleague and i do not own abc. i am sorry to make such a big fuss now that they have gotten a little better but it seams when they lot a little better people stoping complaining even though it is still not acceptable. i just don't see the need for ugo to advertise their site in this way, they have other ads that are ok, but they still use these inappropriate ones also. it just kinda bugs me that in a way i am suporting it.
