Please consider one thread an hour for your experiment... please... please... please...
<img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>if the difference between the right(1 hour) and wrong(1 day) is that big, it will show in the next 2-3 days. let's give it a try(I have yet to see someone saying(without hearing about this) "I tried to post a second awasome thread and got that message! r u a $%#^#@^ idiot?!?" ) and we'll see...

      Just another point to consider...

By putting such a restiction on just the OTF, you now open up the rest of the forums to the attacks you are trying to stop. If somebody wants to have their "fun" at apolyton, they will do it on the OTF. By doing this, you may have attacks occur on other forums that are not restricted. The OTF is usually under heavy watch, while the other forums don't have as much moderator attention. A lot more damage can be done. And the other forums are really the important ones here

So please reconsider and experiment with one thread per hour... please... please... please...

I can't even start a freaking thread in OT anymore today! This is what I was going to post before MarkG screwed everything up.

        ---------

So, this is it, my thread of the day. Today the topic will be stupid OT rules. Lets take the one thread per day rule - if fits the topic well.

Will this help anything in the OT? Will it make it a better place? Will it fix any problems? And just what are the problems, spammers? Just who are these spammers. It's true, this is MarkGs site (and DanQ, hi DanQ!) but it's all the posters that make it what it is. Start putting limits on the posters and you'll start to limit the quality of this site.

        -----

We should start a contest to see what other stupid stuff we can come up with for OT. How about a letter restriction? Say... no 'G' anymore.

MarkG - 'of course it's not spam! that's why I'm interested to see how many people and how many times this will actually affect'

probably not that many. i go for days without posting anything here. it's just the point of the matter. it's an easy fix for a small problem (if it's a problem at all). you're getting lazy MarkG - it's starting to show.

Right. Looks like I'm the only person bar MarkG who thinks it's a good move.

I think it would create more carefully considered posting- a good thing, surely?

why 1? why the extreme? whats wrong with 3. 3 will take care of the spammers yet it's enough so people can still talk about everything and anything they like. 1? where do you go when 1 does not work, zero?

It seems some very reasonable people are posting some very reasonable reason why this shouldn't happen. Hope you are listening Mark* and DanQ.

This wouldn't affect me, I don't remember the last thread I started in Off-topic, but having said that I think it is a bad idea. There are some posters capable of starting more than one interesting topic in a day, to restrict that would be a serious mistake, IMHO.

you want to limit spam... limit the number of posts per day, not threads.

MarkG - one practical effect I can see is more threadjacking / less focused topics. If something from the US elections to Euro2000 to $%^& Enigma pops up in a thread, the creator of the thread can't branch the discussion into a second thread until 24 hours has passed.
<img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>1) this would happen only if the thread had started on the same day and only if the creator of the thread wanted to start the new thread himself.
                    2) even if the case in 1 was true, another participant of the discussion could start the thread, no?

<img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>since when are all limits bad? I guess you mean that there should be no limit to spam as well...

This is ridiculous. A limit is to the number of threads, fair enough it`s restrictive but I can see why you`d do it. But only 1 thread a day? That`s plain madness.

                        Please reconsider this action.

I think this is great. Anything that raises hackles like this is a damn good idea in my book. Hang in there Mark, don't let the bastards get you down.

Tell me that today is first April!!!! Please tell me!
I cant believe what I am reading here!!!

You want quality of posts? Go to CtP2 Forums! Go to Civ3 Forums! Go to Civ2 Forums! Heck, why do you want quality posts on OT? Is it all for bandwith?
Well then add an autodelete function for OT posts that are older than 2 weeks. I mean, nobody ever reads them again.

IMO, OT is a place to meet when there is not much going on in the Civ genre. OT is a place to discuss political views/matters,... with people who share the same love for one game: CIVILIZATION. And it should stay that way!

                                What off-topic is?

A place where people discuss about politics, drugs, world peace, and things like that when it's silent at the Civ front?

NOT. Maybe it is so for the non-spammer posters, but most of the spammer posters don't play much Civ anyway. Then again, this would just encourage the idea of creating a spam forum . Most people there just discuss about stuff because they have nothing better to do or like discussing with other Apolytoner. Usually latter.

But really, I'm still against the idea. I'd say that make a week experiment with one day, another week with one hour, and third week with 10 minutes of time between thread-creating ability and check the results. Then see what system is the best. It'll be pretty long so that the posters can always become at least a bit used to the system, and people like PH can post their threads within the experiment time.
