Do you want to run and update them, then? This information is in people's profiles as it is.

A comprehensive ICQ F.A.Q. has already been compiled by its creators, Mirabilis, at <A HREF="http://www.icq.com">icq.com</A>.

An email FAQ? Too general a topic for us to cover, but if you search around the Web you should be able to find several good ones.

        Dan,

I think we're not talking of a real FAQ here, more of a list with peoples handles and ICQ numbers/email addresses (kind of like the Age FAQ) and I agree with sammyboy7 that it could be very useful, providing everything is sorted in alphabetical order (tough I wouldn't want to be the one to maintain it ).

Yeah DanQ, I think you missed his point.

There have been many "what's your ICQ" threads, because people are interested in other Apolytoners numbers. It's really a good idea, as long as SOMEONE wants to volunteer to set it up and do all the work

yeah, yeah. of course i wasnt talking about a how-to page.. heheh. i was talking about an faq page(s) like the age faq... just a list of people and their icq's/emails.

well, isnt the age faq just a thread that has a link from the faq page? i cant do that linking stuff on apolyton, but theoretically i could start a thread.... it would be helpful, though, if an admin. started it so it would look more official...

suggestion: maybe you could just have an faq thread section on the forums page and then list the age faq, icq faq, email faq, and maybe a location faq, whatever kind of faq somebody wanted to start under that. They would all be in one place, wouldnt get knocked off the first page in 3 hours, and would always be accessible. i dont believe this would be too hard.. after all, you just added a freeciv section....

ps. i have 61 apolytoners numbers, if anyone wants them, but out of 6154 registered users,i'm sutre there are a bunch more with icq.

I agree with Sammyboy. It really wouldn't be much more work then the Age FAQ already is, and it would be really helpful...

Or if no one wants to go through the trouble of maintaining it, then why don't you just set up a place where everyone who lists their ICQ number in their profile can post? That way, those who want to expand their contact-lists with willing apolyton users can look there.

                sammyboy7,
Well, linking isn't all that hard, just copy the address from your browser window into a post and your done (of course a HTML-tag would look better, but this works just as well).
I think that if you *are* gonna make a faq, everyone will have to give himself up, not everyone may want to have their ICQ-numbers so in the open, so adding everyone on your contact-list doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

                adaMada,
I disagree, if everyone justs posts his/her address without having any system, it will be a mess in no time. It'd be easier to check someone's profile then.

                Just my 2 cents,

It actually would be harder than the Age FAQ, because birthdays don't change, and ages only change once a year, but ICQ numbers can change 4 times a week.

But, if no one else wishes, I'd volunteer to do it, anything I should know? This is what I'd be planning:

I'd go from forum to forum requesting ICQ numbers for those who wish to give it. Then I'd make an alphabetical listing. How's that?
Who wants DVDs? Good prices! I swear!

Oh, and also, I'd only really have weekends to work on it if that's OK.

                    Anyone wanna be a helper?

(Yes, this is in fact my pathetic attempt to get a special title )

An ICQ Faq is almost completely static, whereas the age faq changes continuously (250 ppl in the faq, lots of work). FYI, I usually update once every three weeks, and I'm usually busy for 2-3 hours..

In a couple of months I'm hoping to have more time for the faq, and I was planning to expand it, with icq numbers just being part of it...

I think that just an ICQ faq is not enough...
It should contain more info.. I made a thread about this some months ago in this forum...

Oh, ok -- I was just responding to what I believed was reasonable in terms of what I thought was being asked.

An interesting idea. Watch the <A HREF="http://apolyton.net/about">About section</A> for a note on this subject shortly...

I seriously do not get the point of this at all. You click the little button marked "profile" above a poster's name, and the ICQ number is right there. So, If I wanted to know your ICQ number, I'd look it up in the profile. Simple.

But HR, it would be nice to have a full list all in one place.
Granted, if you are only looking for one number, you are correct... But if you are creating a new list...
