it's not a pain for them to do it (am I right ?)
<img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>when you're writing html code at 2a.m. cause you "have to send the already delayed newsletter today", it's not very fun...

</font>In fact it should be like this:
    - we should know that Markos and Daniel do it for free, don't earn anything with it.
<img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>actually, as we already have said, we are indeed in profit. but we're not in the numbers which would cover our work(and of course the work of the other people of the team, mainly Sven and Ming who have put lots of hours in the civ2 db and forums respectively. these guys really do it for free!)

      Saturday ?

      Then I got a vacation
      I was sleeping quiet early
In fact I never stay up very late, only if I play any civ games.

But hey, how are you doing that ? making profit on something like this ? I'm losing money on my online club *sigh*

and about doing things at night, of course that's not funny, but the general thing should be great. It must give you some satisfaction

But your general problem is that you're not using Lotus Domino ! If you would do that the newsletter would be able to be generated and send out automaticly

And of course auto-ban options can be programmed so you dont have to stay up intill 5 am

Cybershy, I prayed to God all night long to let me have my original nickname back, but he wouldn't listen to my prayers.. It really hurt me emotionally God doesn't love me! I'm going to go watch non-stop barney movies now, and don't try to stop me!

Mark, is it possible to take over someone's punishing ? Thus like I'm going to be banned 1 year instead of ghen ?

In that case I start to wonder if that might be fun, to make ghen's prayer to be answered, so he has to go to the church every sunday twice from now on

              Your dl's aren't very original ghen !

How about, Markos, is it possible to close this thread now? Or, Markos, is it possible to ban certain people from posting in the Apolyton forum? Much more constructive questions.

Thank you....I do not often venture out of my beloved SMAC section here, but, as a recent site-operator with a Forum section, I have found this to be both fascinating and insightful. Already, I've had to deal with similar issues, and had absolutely no guidance....no models to work from. Now I have much to ponder. Of course, my little site is less than one half of one percent of Apolyton right now, but it strikes me that the principles will remain the same.

I wish people wouldn't see businesses as horrible, oppressive, alienating entities. I would think that calling this place "just a fan site" would be demeaning to Dan and Markos for how great it is.

I guess I see Apolyton as a business in the same sense that my local neighborhood restaurant is a business. It is run by a couple of the nicest guys around who work their butts off for next to no money because they have a passion for what they do. They make great food, and the atmosphere is perfect. There are some tables outside on the walk, a great wine list, fantastic bar, and some quiet tables in the back. A couple of times, I have sent food back to the kitchen, but I would never consider throwing it at another patron or breaking glasses for the hell of it. And if anyone ever did something like that, they should get kicked out in a heartbeat.

I am immensely proud of the work that Dan and Markos have done here. I wish they got paid even half of what they should for providing us with this amazing site. And should this site ever be in danger of folding for lack of financial resources, I would be the first person in line to try to help out.

                      Long live, Markos!
                      Long live, Dan!

Long live our Apolyton home away from home!

I had better get back to the Off-topic patio, I think Ming is bringing my table a round of Guinness.

                          thanks Sten!

of course I dont associate the wrod business with something bad.
but when you start a fansite for your fun, and you do it for nothing, it doesnt sound good to you when someone calls you a business just because after 3 years work you happened to see 2 dollars from it...

                            Long live Mark & Dan,

fansite owners first, businessmen a long way second!

Peace to them and the fans of the fansite.

I meant my comment that Apolyton is a business the same way Sten said it, and never tried to imply that you guys are in it for the money

Thanks for providing us with a great site
