  • Prominent Links Broken

    Daniel/Markos -

    On April 9th in the Civ2 "news" section, there appeared an article "Database Spring Update". Is it possible that you are not aware that the links for the downloads all appear to be broken?

    Also, Sven's email address seems to be invalid. Who should I be contacting about posting a download? Version 2 of my Civ2 "HiRes" graphics patch is ready, and I'd like Apolyton to have the "world premier".

    Hey Tim.

    Yes, the links were originally broken because of a typo in the URL; however, this was fixed several hours after the article was posted. Perhaps you are browsing a "cached" version of the page. Please hit "Refresh" or "Reload" (depending upon your browser) and see if that makes a difference. The links from the news item should direct you to a database entry with description and actual download link. If the problem persists, email me about it with as much detail (i.e. error message(s)) as possible.

    Sven's email address is svenm@apolyton.net -- looking forward to having your creation submitted to him, and having it premier on Apolyton!

      Dan -

      (sigh) 0 for 2!

      I tried one of the links again. I was successfully passed to the db download screen. When I clicked on "Download" I received the message below. Same results after refreshing. This example was from the "Test of Time Unit mania" download:

      <center><table width=80%><tr><td><font color=000080 face="Verdana" size=2><font size="1">quote:
      <img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1>
      </font>Not Found
      The requested URL /civ2/db/mods/civ2tot was not found on this server.
      <img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>

      --------------------

      Below is the message I received back after I tried to email sven using the address svenm@apolyton.net:

      <center><table width=80%><tr><td><font color=000080 face="Verdana" size=2><font size="1">quote:
      <img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1>
      </font> ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
      sven.muencheberg@gmx.net (expanded from: [svenm@apolyton.net]
      ----- Transcript of session follows -----... while talking to mx0.gmx.net.:
      >>> RCPT To:[sven.muencheberg@gmx.net]
      <<< 550 The recipient does not accept mails from 'hotmail.com' over foreign
      mailservers550 sven.muencheberg@gmx.net... User unknown
      <img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>

      Does this mean that Sven has blocked all addresses from hotmail.com?

      Thanks!
      - mindseye

        Just so people are aware: Tim and I are addressing these concerns via email. If anyone else is experiencing similar problems, though, please respond in this thread accordingly.
