  • Where are old threads?

I am speaking about Civ2-Strategy or Civ2-General but I suppose the problem will be similar with other forums too.
It looks lists of threads shows max. 3 years old threads - thread list ends by 20-12-2000 (only 1000 days back?). But older threads exist too (for example http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...0&pagenumber=2). How can I browse through them?

And among archives in the list of Forum Jump there is only Civ2-Multiplaying-Archive of all Civ2 forums. Where are other archive Civ2-forums? Again - existing links show that some threads still exist, but there is no way how browse through them.

Any threads archived before 2000 are lost to a server crash of the time. The only way to look for other old threads is to select "from the beginning" in your search fields, and scroll all the way to the end.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

      Archives or deleted/lost. Alas.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

Apolyton has had far too many problems to viably find ancient threads.

            I am sorry, I wasn't clear enough.

            new (non-archive) format
The example I gave you in my last post ( http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...30&pagenumber=2 ) is not in the archive format, still it is not accessible by browsing forums (even with from the beginning). I got it only because Paul has a link on his personal page outside of Poly.
So - there exist (non-archive) threads that are not accessible from Poly, likes I don't know how to access them .

            archive format
Second problem - there exist individual threads in archive format (like http://apolyton.net/forums/Forum3/HTML/001279.html ), but I can't find archives of Civ2-forums (I mean lists of threads). But I remember there were archives of Civ2-forums in the list of Forum Jump before. So the problem is similar - there are existing archived threads at Poly that are accessible only if you know a link in advance.

For the non-archived, you could try typing in http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid= + some number, they start at 18 and go up from there. My guess is that #30 is in a private forum.

I don't know about archived- it could be that when the Civ2 forums were re-arranged something happened to them.

This is not a thread in archieve format it is a thread in UBB format instead of VBB. UBB was the old forum software, all the old threads are converted or should have been converted to the new format. These unconverted threads are just online to make sure that such old links work. And indeed here you linked to in the old format in new format.

The oldest thread I found in that forum is PC riot factor?, and here is the link to the forum page: http://apolyton.net/forums/forumdisp...&pagenumber=67

Well I had to click on the 67 twice efore the right forum page was loaded.

And finally you should take in consideration that the Civ2 Startegy forum is just 3 years old.

The civ2-strategy forum is actually one of the oldest forums on poly. It was here when I registered back in Nov '98.

Frozzy, now it works one year deeper than when I started this thread. And I know no existing threads in UBB format that would be older than from november 1999.
