Isn't this a bit OT? You know, question asked, question answered is now applied, and this has nothing to do with the community part of Poly, has it?

      True.
Although maybe they are waiting for other people to start chiming in with "And I want ___ flag too!" so that the admin can then laught at them.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

All this off-topic-ness has caused us to lose focus on what is at issue: an updated Iraqi flag, and the mass riots that will ensue if it is not created - I have Baghdad Bob's assurance of it!

I think its cause the words were added by the Saddam regime, and were done so in 1991, the very year when the Shia and Kurdish uprisings were suppressed, and when the regime shifted toward Islamic symbolism to bolster its legitimacy. So the words on the flag are associated with a particular regime. Many flag changes are of this nature.

Then why should you be able to have the 1991 flag - Iraq either is a country or it isnt. In fact it is a country, with an occupation now recognized under UN resolutions. While the IGC is not sovereign, the CPA has the right to accept IGC decisions, and in the case of the flag has done so. Not sure if the UN recognizes the flag change - need to check.

I dont see any member states' flags on the UN site - perhaps im not looking at the right section?

                          Because it's already there

Location? Then why is a UN flag available? And an EU flag. An english poster can use an English (corss of St Edward?) flag, a Union Jack, an EU flag, or a UN flag, all with subtle differences in political-cultural allegiance implited. And lots of people use flags to express things - not only UN or EU, but many people who used Iraq flags early this year, Israeli flags by non-Israelis, Pal flags by non-Pals, Americans using flags of country there grandparents immigrated from, etc. Not to mention people picking obscure flags cause theyre pretty.
