No, having a record that tells you how many you have makes perfect sense - especially if you're going to limit the number that people can store. I have no idea how your PMs work here as no-one has ever bothered to send me one, nor I anyone else, but at CFC there was a bar showing you how much of the PM inbox you had used. I'm pretty sure there was some kind of fancy colour-coding system so that you started off green and then went yellow, orange and red as you got closer to the limit for PMs. If Thunderfall can implement this then surely 'poly can too.
