    wouldn't this work?
Isn't there such a law already?

Yes, and you can be the first victim. The irony would be delicious.

PopUpTraffic is one of Apolyton's advertisers but, no, what you are seeing from them in the instance referenced above is not a "message from the publisher of this website".

I was feeling adventurous and clicked on 'Download' but it led me to ebay.com.

(I'd guess. At least it looked like it)

I've seen this ad several times. It says warning we've found such and such worm or virus on your computer click here to get rid of it.

Thanks but I already have Norton and I don't need to click their ads.

I guess we knew that already, Dan

But what worries me is that advertisers will send out ads like this, without consulting with "the publishers of this website". It is indeed a f*cked up world we live in

It would make sense if they made a law kind of like there is in the US for telemarketers - something to the extent of: you put your phone number on some government list, and nobody can call it to sell stuff any more. It would make a whole lot of sense to do the same thing for e-mail adresses, but I think there would be no way whatsoever to enforce such a law. Just like with piracy: it's illegal to download software, but people do it and don't get punished, because there is no way to check. Same would hold for spam e-mails, I guess...

asmodean- try downloading the google toolbar- I have it and have been blocking popups for the past month or so- I have no complaints!

                          http://www.google.com

The only popups I get are some strange ones that seem like ads imploring me to "block this type of popup forever" and seeming like viruses/microsoft error dialogues... and the **** things try to access the internet and do something (luckily my firewall shuts them down)

I would rather not have to ad-block, since it potentially hurts apolyton, but the sheer number of popups had made it necessary for me to do so.

DarkCloud: I have all the pop-up blocking software that I need. But these times I surf Apolyton with them turned off, to help locate the Gator culprit.

But thanks for the nice thoughts
