Well... many people do not believe themselves to be British, but English, Scottish, Welsh et al. I recall my father refused to buy a mouthguard for rugby with the union jack on it, instead buying me one with the English flag on it. The Scots and the Welsh are just as uber-patriotic as well. Many people consider themselves not to be British, but English/Scottish/Welsh.
Quite frankly, I think US states are more pro-US than pro-state. After all, Scotland and Wales have their own parliament. They're pretty much seperate peoples with seperate historical backgrounds. You can't tell me a Welshman has the same culture as an Englishman as a Scotsman can you? The UK is three different peoples united under one flag who hate eachother.Comment
