  • Tech Forum?

Apologies if this has been asked recently.
Right now there are 5 or 6 ACTIVE tech threads in the forum. I know it's harried and all at apolyton central right now, but that's a lot of threads. Is it enough to warrant a dedicated tech forum (or sub-forum to off-topic)? ? ?

[edit] And I know that the procedures have been laid out in the new forum thread on this page. I'm just seeing how many people agree.

Asked before and always denied , shame really as I think it could be very usefull.

usual answer is that there plenty of specialised tech boards around.
Which of course is true, but hey, they just aint 'Poly

Dunno...maybe as an OTF sub. But then again, this sets the precedent for History subs, Jokes subs, all sorts of **** you don't want to get into.

The active threads will become unactive eventually.

A tech forum with postcounts is the way to go.

          5 or 6 threads doesn't justify a new forum...

Why would we need a tech forum?

Do we also need an evolution vs Creationism forum, an abortion forum, a political forum, and so forth?

Ming, now you're just asking for it aren't you
                -

Well, for one, it's usefull since a certain tech problem might help you later then when the thread was made (where you did not needed this particular info ).

No, I do not believe that there is sufficient reason to open a technical forum here on Apolyton.

                  But thanks for asking.

I have had a couple of tech questions that I have started threads in the OT and they were answered quickly and were very helpful. I wonder how long I would have to wait for an answer in a tech forum. I think it would be a very useful but seldomly used place just consuming resources without real purpose.

Tbh I don't get this fascination people have with creating new forums. Sure if there is enough traffic to warrant it, and the material doesn't fit well in existing forums then fine. But every time there are, like, 3 threads on a topic someone predicatably shouts "new forum".

There are so many threads like this one at the moment. Perhaps we need a new forum to cope with all the demand?

Maybe. A forum creation forum, with one topped locked thread by Dan saying "No, you can't have a forum". Then all forum creation threads could be moved there, locked, and a link posted the topped locked thread.
