How do you actually become a mod?

Asking puts you at the bottom of the pile.

To make you a mod they have to suck your blood. And then you have to suck their blood. It's like a whole big sucking thing. Mostly they're just gonna ban you.

well, you have to do a lot of sucking up.

well, if you're not related, anyway.

umm... just kidding about that last bit. there is no nepotism here. none.

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

You've played Alpha Centurai, right? The trancendence victory gives a good description of it. The self aware colony is good as well.

You spend "x" amount of time at 'Poly, make good contributions to the forums, earn the respect of your fellows and you might just be eligible for mod status someday.

Contribute a lot of meaningful stuff, make yourself stand out (in a good way) and don't ask for it. Then one day, far off in the future, if an opening were to open up, there's a miniscule chance you'd be considered.

Most of em got to be mods by volunteering to do stuff and being helpful during the early days of the site.

The rest of us just pointed and laughed.
Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..

Look, I just don't anymore, okay?

The first step to becoming a mod is being insane.

Spending hours each day spanking kids over the internet (as another poster colourfully put it with regard to Ming).
