I'm seeing the avatars just fine, here.

Could it have something to do with us hitting one million posts?

Maybe the software wasn't built for something this big...
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Apolyton has waaaay to go if it wants to be among the largest vBulletin bulletin boards, so no worries. IMO the reason is some MySQL related issue still as I get MySQL errors for new messages. Also the issue could be a mixture of vB 2.0.2 and newer MySQL or PHP. I.e. not complete compatibility. Hard to say.

Everything seems to work fine now. I wasn't there last evening, so I don't know how it was, but for now, everything except a few slowdowns are in order

It seems to be fixed, except that animated avatars are frozen.

it must have been a glitch.

It's not a glitch if you don't see avatars all the time. I assume people have a very shortlived memory. Well, let's go back several months and try to remember what Markos did back then. First of all he made avatars show depending on what the server load is. If the load is high, no avatars are displayed in order to cut down the load. Guests wouldn't be able to see the avatars at all. AFAIK he hasn't changed this, which means that you, Alex, didn't see the avatars like I didn't either, due to high server load. Very simple.

oh, I knew about that... It's just that I thought that the problems everybody were experiencing earlier could have affected something in the forum, like the avatar thing. I didn't even remember about the server load measures...
