  • Column #220 (Part 1); By Spiffor L'Omnivore

The two-hundred-and-twentieth edition of "The Column" is now online. Written by Spiffor l'Omnivore, it is entitled `What Makes A Good Civ Game` and is the first of four installments. In this edition, Spiffor breaks down the first two of eight points needed towards building a good Civ-style game.

Comments on this piece are welcome in this thread.

I saw part of it before in a post made by Spiff, still most excellent work and can't wait to see the second part.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God? - Epicurus

Actually, if you can't wait to see the whole text, you can go to this thread. My column is merely the compilation of the 8 points I've written there, with minimal changes to get rid of typos and the addition of small introduction and conclusion.

Edit : I have also seen Dan has edited it to match the column's format too. A job well done Thanks for publishing it

            Spiffor -
Nice breakdown. Thought about writing an email to Microprose?

I would've thought st_swithin would know that MicroProse is no more. Or does this st_swithin have no connection to the St. Swithin of CtP2?

                Pdifolco :
Well, I'll give GalCiv a try when I'll have the time. I'd like to play a demo before buying the game though.

                St Swithin :
Well, Firaxian Soren Johnson (one of the main people behind Civ3) has read the column, and has even responded to it in the other thread. If it has interested him, I suppose Firaxians are aware of the existence of this column

My bad - I did mean Firaxis, but not really. Actually, I was specifically thinking of Brian Reynolds, because I thought he'd be interested, but then I realised he's not at either place anymore.

BTW The St_Swithin of CTPII is also the St_Swithin of CTP1.
