  • "Three Men and a Victory" (Part 1/10)

During ApolyCon '06 held in Timonium, Maryland this past July, three representatives from Civilization IV developer Firaxis Games participated in a multiplayer tournament for the game. The game's Lead Designer Soren Johnson, fellow Designer/Programmer Jon "Trip" Schafer and Software Engineer Alex "alexman" Mantzaris went head-to-head with an on-looking crowd... and a camera documenting it all.

The first of a ten-part "Three Men and a Victory" serial is now available for download. Set to a selection of music from CivIV's soundtrack, key pieces of conversation between the three and other guests and participants help to contextualize the in-game action as seen from each Firaxian's laptop screen on a rotating basis. Below is a screenshot from this production:

The video is in Windows Media format, 07m19s in length and 16.9MB in size. Part 2 is scheduled for publishing on September 19th.

      Whoops -- corrected.

You should post these videos up on YouTube and Google Video. More people would see them that way.

All/most ApolyCon videos, or just this series then?

Ditch poly services and just host it on the big sites. You will never reach a audience if you (only)host it on poly. Adequate linkage back to here, and i bet off topic gets a bunch of fresh recruits too
if you want to stop terrorism; stop participating in it

''Oh,Commissar,if we could put the potatoes in one pile, they would reach the foot of God''.But,replied the commissar,''This is the Soviet Union. There is no God''.''Thats all right'' said the worker,''There are no potatoes''

We are not going to "ditch" serving these videos off of Apolyton first and foremost. Established news contacts are made in order to further disseminate their availability.

When you say "big sites", I take it you are referring to popular video sharing sites (e.g. YouTube, Google Video)? This has only been done with the the Age of Nations produced in-house to date but is being considered for works like this present and future too. The likely arrangement is to be arranging off-site hosting options on services like these a week or so after their initial release here.
