  • "Civilization IV: Multiplayer Headaches" Video

Video footage from the Civilization IV multiplayer tournament on July 8th, 2006 at ApolyCon '06 continues with the "Headaches" following the initial "Setup" [see story] of the competition. Event Chairman and Videographer Daniel "DanQ" Quick puts together a short but hectic representation of getting CivIV multiplayer working over an impromtu Local Area Network (LAN). Firaxis Games' Soren Johnson, Alex "alexman" Mantzaris, Jon "Trip" Schafer and Barry Caudill are featured in an ongoing effort to restore order with Johnson providing the ultimate solution. Below is a screenshot from this production:

In addition to Quick Markos "MarkG" Giannopoulos was also in attendance from ACS; these two men are the Co-Owners/Administrators of Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS) from which this conference was based.

The rapid panning of the camera is clearly an artistic attempt to make the user feel the nausea assoicated with setting up such a game. (literally!)

More like a) never having filmed a live event before and b) not having types of equipment to help with jostling (e.g. "tripod for the shoulder": did not know one existed before the event, and there might not even be one for my type of camcorder).

I was watching the video being recorded through the LCD display as often as I could while filming, and with the exception of 'here and there' the panning never struck me as being too much. A learning experience.

P.S. This clip is also heavily edited, so that certainly changes the perception somewhat.
