  • Widening This Beyond 'poly?

Just throwing this out there (don't throw eggs, please), but any thoughts about letting other fan communities in on this like CivFanatics?

I'm going to totally duck the issue and say that the decision lies with Mark and Dan. However, I will say that all my organizing efforts will be focused exclusively on the Apolyton community as I have no connection with the others.

I also think that it might change the tone of the convention, make it more competitive and less fun. There will be too much jockeying for position in regards to access to our guests, too much of a need by some to "scoop" the other sites, and opens the possibility of, frankly, having too many people, too many, well, strangers.

Think about it. Where do you stop opening up? The more you invite, the more you have to invite. Suppose there's a very active Rise of Nations community that has no relation to Apolyton whatsover - if you're opening this up to "fans of Firaxis and BHG games", you will have to contact the other site and let them know about the convention.

Lastly, the original planning document limits the convention participants to "members of the Apolyton Civilization Site as of March 31st, 2006", so if the other forum members want to participate they can register here and participate here.

Let me clarify: I have no problem with promoting and mentioning this meeting at other Civ/Smac/Ron sites in order to get their members to come here, sign up, and participate here in the convention and the planning, organizing of it.

But I prefer that it not turn into a trade-show, one with competing Civ-oriented websites, all of them with their own "booths" each groups members hanging out only with members of the same board. That's not what the Poly Convention is about.

Upon further discussion, we've decided to definitely keep this an Apolyton meet centered around Firaxis/BHG, and not the other way around, a Civ meet hosted by Apolyton. Danke.
