  • A.C.S. Convention '06 (NA): Help Choose Weekend

This thread is an offshoot of "The Apolyton Convention of 2006" thread found at http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...readid=136979. For background information on the convention and what led to the date pre-selections here, review it. See the following three posts there first/in particular:

Note that whatever weekend comes out as the most popular does not necessarily mean that that is the weekend that will be chosen. However, it has the potential to be quite influential in what date will be chosen. When I say "has", I mean that I'm looking for those who are interested and available to attend at least one of these weekends votes... but, of course, any registered user can vote.

Even if you don't choose the "Other" option, after voting please post in this thread explaining why you chose the date you did over the others. I'm asking voters to choose one date so we can get a better gauge of which date(s) are most popular as opposed to giving users the option of choosing as many or as little as they want.

Voted July 14-16: its right after the July 4th crush, so travel should be easier. Also, personally speaking, 'cause the wife works July 4th weekend (she's an ER nurse and the weeks immediately surrounding July 4th's are always busy.... ) why I'm anticipating she'll have this weekend off.
Now all I have to do is come up with an excuse to leave town for the weekend....

As of now, any of those dates are as good as any other.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Errr, Dan.... Either I'm going nutters or those are 2005 dates...

It might be good to promote this event widely on the site before closing this poll, we want this to reflect as many people's preferences as possible.

Also, any date from June 9 to July 9 falls during WC06 (that's the World Cup football for you yanks -- for many non-Americans that would be like planning this on the weekend of Superbowl Sunday), something that might prevent some (if not many) Europeans from attending, either the US meet or the European equivalent (and it would probably also skyrocket hotel costs if the European meet was held in Germany). I know it would for me, I already missed the last WC due to travelling, I have no intention of missing this one (especially since we're gonna win this one, we always do well in Germany ).

Late July to early August would be best for me.

Those are 2006 dates, Friday thru Sunday.

Good call! July 21-23 would be most favorable for me then.

Only the final match would be like planning it for Superbowl Sunday, presumably that would be July 9. And unless you hooligans have tickets you can watch your team lose on any TV in the world.

Aug 12 is my family's 147th annual reunion (started 1859; they skipped a few years during wars). Could show up Sunday if that were the weekend chosen.

Don't pretend to understand something you don't

And yes, I fully intend to get tickets for a couple of matches as soon as the groups have been drawn. In Europe we likely won't get that chance again until 2020, so I don't plan to miss out...

Late July seems to be best. But I can probably make it whenever.

                    Bump.

Sadly DC probably won't be able to make this, so DC has no opinion on the date. But DC will certainly attempt his best to attend after a date is decided upon.

We'll consolidate discussion again in the 'main' thread of this effort for now at least.
